in the other thread, but may deserve it's own thread
Friedman also on 960 says he also heard Conroy was in Winnipeg to watch the Jets and Blue Jackets AHL affiliate and also speculates he was there to watch Rychel.
He also said Columbus' asking price for Rychel is really high right now.
Friedman thinks Blue Jackets want a young defenceman for Rychel.
To give an idea how much the BJs are looking for in return, Friedman says it is possible they asked for Shea Theodore for Rychel, but Ducks balked at the price.

As I mentioned in the trade thread I wonder if Wotherspoon+Granlund could be a package that gets it done. If not Granlund maybe another forward prospect (not Porier or Klimchuck)
Yeah, I think it would take a Hickey level prospect, which I think is too much.

Two teams struggling out of the gate looking to make a deal? What is the biggest hole in Columbus? Any speculation as to what type of roster player they'd be targeting?
I think Theodore would be ahead of all of Anderson, Hickey and Kylington because he has as good if not better junior/college career already but is a year or two ahead of them in development.
I was hoping we could have used Wideman or Russell to get Rychel but not sure that is going to work now.

Who would be a comparable prospect to Shea Theodore for the Flames?
In terms of style and arguably having similar upside, Brandon Hickey. But Theodore is already pro, while Hickey might still be 2 or more years away from getting there.

Really like Rychel, was hoping the Flames would draft him. Think the BJs are asking a bit much, but would definitely be interested if I were Treliving.
Interesting that Kulak was the best young Flames D-man out of camp and he was not considered by anyone as a top young d-man worth enough to trade for Rychel.
Just the fact that the Flames are looking at him indicates that management has identified missing toughness in their lineup/organization.
How much better is Rychel than Poirier?
Having Colborne and Bouma out kind of exposed the Flames with Ferland being the only Flame power forward..
That seems like a steep price for the Flames. A good top 4 D and a pretty good prospect for a very good prospect. I think the Jackets add
Russell is a UFA that has been a good top 4 for 1 maybe 2 years and Wotherspoon is a good prospect that appears to be 8/9th on the Flames d depth chart.
That would be a deal that I would really consider if I were the Flames, but I think the Flames need to be looking to the future more than this year and I am fine if they miss the play-offs this year. I am not sure Treliving has that luxury or thinks the same way.

I think in this is exactly the price for a 19th overall pick that is trending well.
I agree. I think that's a fair price from the Flames side. At this point, Wotherspoon looks 50/50 to be a top 4 d man. He has just as likely a chance to be a bottom 6 d man.

I don't see how Rychel is any better than Poirer. I certainly would not expect a top 4 D and a prospect that looks like he will be at worst a bottom pairing guy in 1-2 years as fair value. I think you are overrating Rychel

if the Flames move Russell soon I hope it is not for a prospect. If this is at the deadline I would be okay with it but if that trade went through as proposed I feel the Flames would be sending a message that this season is already lost
