Default 4 New FM radio stations coming to CGY

The winners for Calgary:
Harvard - 92.9 FM, 45,000 Watts, Alternative Rock format
Rawlco - 100.3 FM, 19,000 Watts, Specialty Licence for Folk and folk orientated music
Newcap - 90.3 FM, Triple A
CHUM - Hot Adult Contemporary

Also Airdire and Lethbridge will see new stations

http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/whatsnew.htm

This should saturate things a little. I expected 2, but not 4.

Adult Album Alternative

If "alternative" includes Nickelback, Creed, Live etc., then no thanks.

Adult Album Alternative. When I went to BCIT for the radio program, we were a AAA format. I liked it, but given that a bunch of young people like us were the music directors, some of the music was geared towards us. Having said that, AAA is still very good in its truest sense.

You can go here and get an idea of what AAA is, here's the top 20 the last time CFML was on the air in June.

Some folk and alternative type music coming to town. Good news. We have enough copy cat stations playing ACDC. Calgary's music scene has definitely evolved past the kind of redneck station you hear on CJAY 92 et al.

AC/DC gets a bad rap. Any band sounds crappy when they play the same songs over and over and over..... If they'd play stuff from the Powerage album once in awhile it'd be nice.

Anything that spreads the spectrum of what I can hear is appreciated.

Yeah, of course you're right. I just meant the ridiculous overplaying of let's see, Dirty Deeds, TNT, and all those other singles that sort of sound the same.

No new AM stations though...which is interesting...I heard rumors of at least one AM station being added to the dial.

Anything added to the current mix is a good thing.

I hate Commercial JAY 92.

Great news.

I can't stand listening to CJAY anymore. 90% of the new music they play follows the exact same format:

Acoustic/slow verse
Distortion Chorus
Acoustic/slow verse
Distortion Chorus
Interlude or a very medicore solo
Build up to final chorus with an acoustic chorus once
Extended Distortion Chorus

After listening to an hour of CJAY you can't even distinguish between all these new bands.

Let's just hope the Alternative Rock station actually plays more non-mainstream stuff...

With the buy-out of the OK Radio Group in Alberta I beleive Fort McMurray and Grand Prairie are both getting new stations as well.

I beleive a year or more ago someone on this board said normal radio as we know it was soon dying, and I said there would always been a place for it in the forseeable future.

Toot toot.

Yeah great, more garbage stations like CJAY that will play nonstop Nickelback and Default.

Thank God I have my Sirius. Commercial radio is dead to me.

I believe this AAA could just as easily launch as another FM Country station. We'll see.

Thanks god, Calgary radio is so bad! Hopefully these stations don’t wash into the same thing all the other stations did

Pretty off topic, but speaking of radio, is it me or has Mike Richard gone way down hill?

Interesting that Airdrie is getting a station as well... sounds like another Eagle 100.9 type thing where it is cheaper to put a transmitter in a neighboring town for much lower fees than in Calgary.

Basically, we are getting five new stations.

Personally, I hope that one of them is formatted like Sonic 102.9 in Edmonton. Regardless, more variety is always a good thing.
