Sites and good food in San Diego and San Francisco
Hey CP
Just wondering if anyone has some good advice on places to see and eat in San Diego and later on in San Francisco.
I was thinking their famous zoo, museum of man, USS Midway in San Diego for the 3 days and will be staying downtown/airport area
After that, a quick drive to Anaheim to see Disney land for the day.
Finally, 4 days in San Francisco.
Thinking, Alcatraz, Fisherman's wharf, the aquarium, trolley cars, the weird neighbourhoods
Any advice would be very welcome
Thanks in advance

After a day of surfing, I would go to a restaurant called Roberto's Very Mexican Food. It's in Del Mar, next to Torrey Pines. Great beach, and a fun place to surf.

Balboa Park in San Diego is a great spot for a walk or a jog, they have (or did have) a San Diego sports museum there too.

Alcatraz is a must go to destination. We waited with the Park Ranger and had a 40 minute talk from him before we started the tour. Well worth listening to.
Mama's ( http://www.mamas-sf.com/) is worth queuing up for brunch as well. Make sure you have their home-made jam on the pancakes.

Avoid Fisherman's Wharf, the trolley cars, and Alcatraz like the worst plague. Go to North Beach, grab some espresso, and people watch.

Pier 59 is a rip off. Avoid it. Check out the Exploratorium. Not sure why Peter12 is saying avoid the trolley cars. They're expensive, but there's only so many ways one can pretend to be Danny Tanner in the city of gay love. Beautiful city, but always cold. Unless you go when I did and it hits 100 degrees for four days straight for the first time in four decades.

They are like $5 to go a couple of blocks. I don't know. San Francisco is expensive enough already.
For the city of gay love experience, go to the Castro Theatre in the Castro and watch the Wizard of Oz.

Basic - Great Pizza place downtown right by PETCO park downtown. All they do is pizza, beer and salad but they do it great. http://www.barbasic.com/
Neighborhood - Small place but great food and different beers on tap every day. 2 for 1 happy hour beers too. http://www.neighborhoodsd.com/blog.php?cat=Blog
Most of the restaurants in gaslamp district were crappy and touristy in my opinion.

In SD: Oretegas Bistro for Mexican is a must in the Hillcrest neighborhood (close to hotel village, zoo, etc). Casa Guad. is good for touristy Mexican, but if you want something legit...
hey google works:
www.ortegasbistro.com
Also, go to the padres game...nice stadium and inexpensive to boot.
last year they had a dog+peanuts+drink+cookie combo for 5 bucks....sold on the first deck behind 3rd base.

+1
Avoid the tourist traps.
Go to Mission - Pancho Villa Taqueria - $5.00 burritos.

Something really different - go see Glide Methodist Church in the Tenderloin Sunday morning.
http://www.glide.org/Celebrations.aspx
Farmers Market south of Market for great tamales (Saturdays).

The Gaslamp district is full of good restaurants. I can't remember the name, but there's a seafood restaurant across the tracks from the convention center that is very good. I'll be there in July, can't wait, I love San Diego.

^ Do all of these.
Walk around the Warf, have some Chowder in a Bread Bowl. Take one of the 20 dollar 1hour ferry trips around the bay. Takes you out under the GG Bridge, around Alcatraz and back. Drink an Anchor Steam beer on the boat.
I'd catch the trolley from the Warf to Market St. area to do some shopping and look around down town.
Don't miss Alcatraz. I preferred the night tour. Fascinating stuff.
