Nope, not the telecommunications towers on South Mountain. The
lights in question slowly traveled from north of the city, down to almost the border, and then back again during the night. They hung over
Phoenix for the better part of an hour.

They reappeared and caused quite the stir earlier this month. The state government has attempted to explain them as military flairs dropped during an un-scheduled exercise. That hasn't sold very well as the
lights were over the city, and the military doesn't drop flairs during an exercise over a city.
I had never heard of these things until earlier this year when I was doing research on something that had happened to my wife and I. We were walking our dog one night and I noticed something in the clouds in the distance. There were five brilliant orange balls of light in a perfect line hovering in the cloud. Suddenly the light on the far left disappeared, and a few seconds later it materialized on the far right. Just as I went to point these out to my wife, they faded away. I was quite upset about the whole thing and expressed that I wish she had seen them as well. We continued on our walk and rounded a bend where we had a spectacular view of the clouds and mountains. As we stood there, the
lights returned and did their show for about three minutes before disappearing again. This time my wife saw them. We were both at a loss to find an explanation.
I was away on business one weekend and my wife had to let the dog out in the middle of the night (2-3 am). She said that while she was letting the dog out that the
lights reappeared and were almost over our house. She was very freaked out by this. She saw them again that following evening while she was walking the dog again.
When I returned she gave me the full details and I started to do some investigation on strage occurances in our neck of the woods. That is when I discovered stories about the
lights. I didn't know if it was the same thing or not, but then we found a series of video clips shot by amateurs and by local TV stations from the 1997 incident. They were the exact same thing behaving in the same manner. Freaked out? A bit.
We haven't told anyone of these sightings, and now that the
lights have come back to
Phoenix itself, we're debating whether we want to disclose this. It's very strange and very unsettling.
