There's absoloutly nothing Trump can do to 'save' jobs in manufacturing, therefore it's not his fault that the jobs leave, as long as we want cheap TV's clothing and the like then manufacturers will have to find the cheapest place to make them.
Now we can blame Trump for lying about his ability to 'fix' things but really it's the fault of the voters for voting for an obvious fallacy, but much like Brexit the voters have been desperately voting for obvious bolloxs these days, democracy doesn't work when the voters are too stupid to recognise a pig in lipstick dressed up as a tart.

He saved 1000 jobs likely by paying the company more money than it takes for them to pay those employees (salary and benefits). IN all likelihood. ANd by paying them I mean the taxpayers of the country are paying that company to save those 1000 jobs.
It makes for a great headline and feel good story. IT's also completely unsustainable and not any sort of plan. Par for the course with Trump and the GOP really.
In other news....Trump interviews Petraeus for Secretary of State. This is ultimate troll job by Trump given Petraeus is actively serving out a sentence for knowingly disclosing classified information to his biographer/mistress.
So an entire campaign run on e-mails and not being able to trust CLinton because classified information could have been at risk when she was secretary of state to potentially hiring a guy who actually did it. LOL. I guarantee the ardant supporters will somehow find a way to gloss over this but this was teh biggest thing to many of his supporters. So many facebook posts and memes on the dirty lying CLinton risking lives because of private servers. Oops.
Also..a new poll that suggests 49% of americans want Obamacare retained in full or expanded. Only 26% want it repealed. Shockingly americans are warming up to the idea of being able to go for preventative care instead of waiting until a trip to the emergency room is the only solution. Enrollment is also up significantly from other years.

He'd have to inform his parole officer any time he wanted to leave the country lol. Unless Trump pardons him.

Just to show how little a #### Trump actually gives about the Carrier workers...

...this plant makes gas furnaces.
I very much like the theory this was all a well devised PR stunt. The obvious tell is the location of the plant. I'm guessing a plant with 10,000 workers about to lose their jobs to Mexico, in a state with a Dem governor, would never be mentioned by Trump. One where his running mate can easily make a nice corporate welfare handout? Yup, that'll play. Of course it's ridiculous after years of whining socialism at Obama they go with about as much socialism as it gets to save jobs, but hypocrisy being revealed will be something people will just have to get used to the next four years.
And Bernie is also right that this now greenlights companies who weren't considering a Mexico move to threaten to do exactly that, in very public terms, to put all the pressure on Trump to save the jobs. Now every factory Trump doesn't save gets magnified as a failure. A short term win that opens up a long term problem. Expect corporate welfare to rise significantly under Trump, we know he doesn't want the bad PR and spending other people's money is something Trump is an expert on.

Listened to an interesting podcast where they had some of the media talking about how things have to change in this post-fact world.
http://www.theatlantic.com/notes/201...-facts/509276/
Unfortunately I think they're barking up the wrong tree, and the Trump surrogate they had on has it right in a way when she said that it's all a matter of opinion and there are no such things as facts. She's wrong of course, there are facts, but she's right in that from the public's point of view, there's no objective reality only subjective opinions that support one's beliefs or don't.
The nice thing about science is that there is an objective reality, there are facts, and one can argue if the the chain of reasoning is valid but one cannot argue the process or results.
So I was thinking at first that maybe journalism needs to become more like science. In a way it already is but I was thinking taking it further. Maybe articles need to be annotated with references to more fact checking, non-partisan fact checking that goes through a peer-review type process, make it more clear when things are being communicated as fact and when things are opinions.
But then I laughed because of how absurd that sounds. It appeals to me because of who I am, but the vast majority of people aren't like that.
Even in the realm of science where there is objective truth the general public's trust is low; a substantial number of people including those in charge think climate change is a hoax, that vaccines cause autism, that shark urine cures cancer, and the earth is 6000 years old. So if people believe what they want in a realm where objective truth is at least in principle attainable, what hope is there for a realm where it's much more subjective?
So in an era where people's notion of truth is formed by the fake news that Facebook feeds them and cognitive biases are exploited to create truth by shouting louder, I don't think the solution lies in the media getting their message out in a new, better way, because people aren't listening. You don't convert someone from one religion to another by getting out a better message of your religion.

I think a better way would be to do exactly what the conspiracist theorists on the left and the right think the elite are doing.
Start a clandestine group of educated centrists to distribute fake news to the left and the right that is actually Supports a main stream agenda..
For example: Anti-TPP elitist business moguls plan to enslave white American workers to reduce costs
Due to rising prices in China, India, and Africa American business leaders no longer see globalization as the solution. Instead they plan to leverage anti union and anti trade sentiment to eliminate job protections and enslave white america. Chinese nationalists business men in a leaked memo were caught saying why would we pay Chinese workers $3 per hour and then ship the goods to the US when by changing US labour laws under the guise of anti-globalization we can pay American workers the same rate.

It also gives companies an easy way to extort tax breaks and other favors out of the government. It sounds like all a company has to do is threaten to outsource jobs and they'll get favorable treatment and corporate welfare if they then agree not to. Similar to how billionaire sports team owners always seem to float the idea of moving the franchise when they're looking for the government to fund a new stadium.

Sure and even though it's "saving" 1000 jobs despite some opinions to the contrary in some posts above it DOES matter that another 1000 are still leaving. The area still has a net loss of jobs. And that will continue when it comes to factory jobs. Now I'm sure Trump etc have no issue campaigning for a second term on "without us the country would have lost more jobs" but that IS a tough sell in the end. Does the public truly believe you saved jobs if the jobless rate in the area continually moves up?

Looks like it's Mattis for secretary of defense, if they can get a law changed which says secretaries of defense can't have been in active duty in the last 7 years.

Not a big fan of his stance on Iran, but also about the most reasonable pick so far.

Interesting conversation between Trevor Noah and Tomi Lahren which touches on a lot of different things that led up to the election and nomination of Trump.

Anyone watching this Trump rally in Ohio?
I thought he would mature up after the election...but man this is the same insane rally as before. Mindless rants, cheering, everyone will be great, etc.
I had the tinniest bit of optimism for his Presidency. All gone now haha. This guy is a ####ing lunatic.

He identifies as orange maybe? But honestly, why is it good for a laugh to shame him for how he looks, or chooses to look, but it is completely unacceptable for women, gender identification and sexual preference?
