I'm not gonna lie if I was like 80 and had lived out my years I'd be praying for impact.

This sh**hole of a planet needs to go. Or at least most of the people on it.

I can't help but think that if we followed all the principles and beliefs of ancient cultures the world would be a pretty awful place.

Just curious - what are all of the correct names and predictions made in the Bible again?

(in relation to the videos de-bunking 2012)

I'm really not sure what he's talking about there.

I like how the video was essentially "Nono, your god won't end the world, mine will!"

I just found it funny that he was sitting there saying people were applying their own interpretations to the Mayans, etc. to make it fit their theories, then he turns around and does the exact same thing with the bible.

To be fair though, he does warn that his theory was extreme and if you didn't want to hear it you are free to shut off the video.

Interesting video nonetheless.

April 13, 2036 eh? Going to be a bad week to be a Canuck fan, first the Canucks will miss the playoffs than a day or two later they'll be completely wiped off the face of the Earth....

Default 2012 Debunked

So here's some quick truth and debunking for ya. I know I said 'quick' and this will be a long post but there's always tons more on the subject so it's 'quick' in comparison. Sorry I was away from the comp a while.

First of all, just a common Wikipedia link that has a good overview of the calendar and it's different periods.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_calendar

And a some quick info about their 'longer time periods' with a great quote at the bottom which I've bolded.

'There are also four rarely-used higher-order cycles: piktun, kalabtun, k'inchiltun, and alautun. Since the Long Count dates are unambiguous, the Long Count was particularly well suited to use on monuments. The monumental inscriptions would not only include the 5 digits of the Long Count, but would also include the two tzolk'in characters followed by the two haab' characters.
The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar forms the basis for a New AgeJosé Argüelles, that a cataclysm will take place on or about December 21, 2012, a forecast that mainstream Mayanist scholars consider a misinterpretation, yet is commonly referenced in pop-culture media as the 2012 problem. belief, first forecast by
"For the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle," says Sandra Noble[12], executive director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies, Inc. in Crystal River, Florida. "To render December 21, 2012, as a doomsday or moment of cosmic shifting", she says, is "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in."'

Again, it's all about money and panic, but everyone can believe what they want I guess.

Here is another link about the Mayan Calendar. As you can see they have a period of time for 63 MILLION YEARS. So to suggest that their time period of 5125 years which will begin again on Dec 21. 2012 has some 'end of days' significance is probably a little shortsighted in context with that.

http://www.webexhibits.org/calendars...dar-mayan.html

As far as what exactly happens to suggest a completion of a cycle in 2012 (IE like the passage of a year is one orbit around the sun, the passage of a day is one revolution of the earth round it's axis) again it has to do with the earth's (and other relevant bodies) position in the stars or star charts. Much like astrology predicting things because of positions of planets in the different constellations. A lot of this had to do with their culture and their legends and their spirituality, not with predictions for the future, or even an end time prophecy.

Here are two links on what the skies will probably look like over Giza and Mexico City in 2012, and some of the legends that go with it. Again, it has more to do with the constellations that mattered in their legends then anything else that may affect us. However, their is evidence that our system will be aligned with the center of the milky way galaxy more closely than it has been in over 5000 years. The band of the milky way, which is more visible from the southern hemisphere was important in their culture and legends.

http://www.crystallotus.com/TheTransition/005.htm

http://www.siloam.net/jenkins/ambilac.html

So lastly, what does this have to do with Nibiru, a Planet X, a pole shift, or a world catastrophe? Absolutely NOTHING! The Mayans predicted nothing of the sort. But let's look at these possibilities for our sake anyway.

First of all, pole reversal, which is the most widely excepted theory, would probably not occur because of any transit that we are aware of. Scientists as they understand it now, believe it has more to do with changes in the earths core.

The funny thing is, an actual magnetic reversal would not be nearly as dangerous to our lifestyle as many have suggested. Theories that say that it would cause great devastation are highly exaggerated. We may have some serious problems with satellites and some electronics, but exactly how much is not understood. There is no evidence or any extinction period coinciding with a pole reversal.

Here's another wiki link which talks about both of those topics.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geomagnetic_reversal

Lastly, good ol Planet X. Nibiru. Nibiru was of course a Babylonian god associated with the Sumerian god Marduk, represented by Jupiter, the largest planet in the system. Neither of these gods where what you'd call 'good guys' so Planet X, which has been though to cause great chaos, change or destruction to Earth has been named as such by these New Age phonies.

There are SO many reasons that Earth does not have a neighbour that is rushing towards us to cause great damage in the near future that it's truly laughable.

First of all, even if it's transit is large, that it only comes around every 5125 years, if we were only 3 and 1/2 years away from that cycle, we'd be aware of it by now. Especially with all the people who believe it exists. Even if there was a worldwide government conspiracy to cover things up so people don't panic, don't you think one of these amateur astronomers would have some legitimate proof by now?

Here are some youtube videos debunking the Nibiru myth. Please ignore any cheesy techno or bad editing as I did not make them...

This one has lots of reading...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWkEYxBGqN8

This one narrated for the lazy (different vids though). The guy might be a bit of a jerk and have a bizzare sense of humour, but he gets the point across.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bt1bTq3Z5Fc

There are may other ones, even longer and more indepth. Just search 'Nibiru debunked'.

So why all the misinformation? Well actually much of it was started by a New Age 'prophet' many years ago in which she predicted the end of the world years before now. She since moved it up to this important cosmic date. It has shown to generate so much interest and be so profitable, many people have jumped on the band wagon. And that little bit I'm going to let you go research yourself if you like. Cause ultimately, people will believe what they want to beieve. But if you do find her, and her hilarious story, it's pretty good.

Lastly, about misinformation, I was watching a program about all the books coming out about it, and the publishers often change the titles to sound more alarmist, even if the content is true, just to sell books!

Anyway, there you go, a little crash course on all the silliness.

So next time I see a naked hot chick running away from authorities, can I assume she's the 5th Element?

Planet X was a great story T@T! I really enjoyed myself thoroughly. The topic itself made me watch videos for about 4 hours. Some gave me tears from laughing so hard (home movies about the doom coming) and others were very compelling an well done!

All that needs to be said on this ridiculous claptrap really:

One of funniest things about this Nibiru story is that it is a rerun -- there was a big Internet concern that Nibiru would destroy the Earth in May of 2003. Something tells me this didn't happen, yet now the same myth is resurrected. Are we condemned to suffer a Nibiru scare every decade in this century, or will people come to their senses?
If the guy from NASA says it, it's good enough for me.

We're facing monumental problems with global warming and loss of habitat, yet a substantial minority of Americans thinks the world was formed less than 10,000 years ago and deny that evolution is possible.
And the bible thumpers stopped reading right there.

Hey if Planet X doesn't make it in 2012 who are we to say they didn't make a 10 year pit-stop for gas?.
