Default Heading to Newfoundland...need advice!

My family and I are heading to Newfoundland (Corner Brook) from Calgary next summer. We are planning on stopping in Toronto (Bowmanville area) for a couple of days on our way there. We have two kids who will be 6.5 and 4 next year.

Anyone have any suggestions of what to do/see? Where to stay?

Also, is it looks like most of the flights to Deer Lake have a stop over in Toronto... does anyone know if it's possible to extend the layover?

I am heading to St. John's for the first time ever in 10 days. Anything I shouldn't miss?

When I have time I'll expand on this more... but if either of you get the chance to spend much time on the west coast, a trip through the stunningly beautiful gros morne national park is a must.

The wedding is actually taking place on the southern western tip of the Gros Morne National Park. We have a 6 Bedroom house rented that sits right on the ocean for the three days prior to the wedding, so am positive we will spend some time himing thru the park.

Please do expand on your thoughts as I am curious if there are some hidden gems within the park that we should seek out.
