Default Moving Co. Recommendations?

Looking to book a moving co. for a late September residential (within Calgaryy) move....any recommendations on good/bad movers? The household is about 2800 Sq. ft. with a couple heavy items (ie. treadmill/big screen etc..)

Thanks....

I'd highly recommend A-Affordable Dave's Moving. browna recommended him in this thread: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=10981 so I thought I'd give it a shot and wow, cheap and he really knows what he's doing.

Thanks browna for the original recommendation!

We used Atlas Van lines (their local affiliate, don't remember name) they were great, used carpet runners to protect the flooring, had three great workers, and were very quick--plus we got some free boxes.

Whoever you go with, I'd advise do as much as you can, to reduce the time they will have to work, it can save you tons.

We bought a Jayman house so we were able to use their van for most of the small stuff, and the movers moved the heavy/akward stuff in less than 3 hours.

Tips I'd offer for packing would be label the boxes with large clear writing (on computer paper with large font and taped for best results), so they/you know exactly where to put boxes in the new house; dissasemble any furnature you can easily (beds, desks, tables, etc), or that wont fit through doorways; some companies (like Atlas) offer wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes-use them so you won't have to pack ALL your clothes till last minute; try to bring the boxes and furniture to a central location near the exit for the movers, this will also reduce time.

Hope it helps.

I second this. We had Two Small Men with Big Hearts booked for our move in February. It snowed the morning we were supposed to move and they decided they wouldn't move us as the roads were too bad (it was normal winter driving conditions and by the afternoon, all major roads had been cleared). To make it even worse they would not come out the following day as they were already booked and wouldn't bump anybody (or squeeze us in) in order to catch up on the moves they missed due to the snow. To make it even worse, they wouldn't give us a day they would be able to move us. They basically had told me to get lost. I ended up having to scramble and find a U-Haul to move myself.

These guys are not reputable, the guy on the phone was disrespectful, and anybody who uses them is just asking for trouble. They don't deserve anyone's business.

I've moved long-haul with Atlas and the experience was great - very courteous and efficient to work with.

No worries. After a bad experience with another company, these guys had no issues with bulky stuff, and were as efficient as one could ask.
We expected to pay almost double of what we actually paid...for work that efficient and quality.

I went with Williams. It cost $600. Very quick, totally efficient.

I just moved in May and used "Two Amigo's" and they were great. We moved all the small stuff ahead of time so for 2 different pick ups (hers and mine) and one drop off for a total of just under 3 hours moving time plus 1 hour travel @ $99 per hour. they give you a 10% discount if you pay cash so it came in at just under $400.
