Flames sign Josh Jooris (2 yr ELC, $925k AAV)
http://www.dailygazette.com/weblogs/...algary-flames/
Quote:
The Union hockey team is losing an important offensive cog in its lineup.
Center Josh Jooris will be signing with the NHL's Calgary Flames. The announcement will be made official either later today or Wednesday.
Jooris, who had 29 goals and 59 assists in 117 career games, is giving up his senior year. Last season, he was the Dutchmen's fourth-leading scorer with 12 goals and 16 assists. The 12 goals were a career high. He scored twice in Union's 5-1 win over Boston College in the NCAA hockey tournament East Regional semifinal on March 30.
He recently participated in the Flames' prospect camp.
Union coach Rick Bennett confirmed the signing. Jooris was not yet available for comment.

So it is an ELC...Can't say I blame him blowing off the last year of college. Honestly with the state the flames are in probably his best chance to play an NHL game.

Well, I suppose Mikhail Grabovski can scratch Calgary off the list of potential suitors now.

Jooris looked great in development camp, so I approve of this signing.

I thought Trey Lewis, Penner and Jooris were the best among the invitees during the Dev Camp scrimmages
edit. This puts the Flames at 46 contracts (two that can slide), plus 2 RFAs

With at least 2 of Cammi, stemps and stajan likely being traded at some point. We should be okay for number of contracts. I like this signing, you can never have enough young center depth.
I haven't seen any size stats on him yet.
Edit: found it, according to hockeydb we have 6.01' 190 lb right shooting center

Hockey DB and his Union College player page both have him at 6'1'' 190#
Edit: Of course Sureloss beat me to it

Why? A 23 y.o. College Junior with meh stats (at the NCAA level) and only average size... why burn a reserve list spot?

Because what else are they going to do? Including kipper they have nine expiring NHL contracts this summer. They can sign a project centre.

How long would this contract be? 2 year ELC? I guess we need to have players for the AHL.

Probably a good signing. Flames need right handed shots, and the fact that he's a centre, make him more valuable. If he impressed at camp then it's not much risk to give him a shot.

2 years, yes. From capgeek:
AGE LENGTH
18-21 3 years
22-23 2 years
24 1 year
25+ No Restriction *
* A one-year entry-level restriction applies to drafted players from Europe aged 25 to 27.

How about nothing (at least right now)? I think I'd rather have an open reserve list spot available for someone potentially better down the road.

If we through enough pasta at the wall, eventually something is going to stick. This will probably be the best opportunity a lot of these young players ever have at cracking an NHL lineup. Maybe we'll get lucky for a change.

As long as he's in the AHL I have no problem with this.

He was probably never coming here anyways so why moan about it.
