Default Travel Advice: Peru

Anyone here ever been to Peru and have recommendations?

On my list, I have:
- Lima
- Southern Sierra (Arequipa, Colca Canyon, Cusco/Qosqo, Ollantaytambo, Inca trail to Machu Picchu)
- Iquitos
- Huayliay National Sanctuary
- some amazon trip

Also worth considering...
- Nazca (Lines)
- Huancayo
- Huaraz or Caraz

Anyone have any recommendations as well?

There was another thread recently about Peru.

I would recommend:

Cuzco - Macchu Picchu

Puno - Lake Titicaca - Copa Cabana Bolivia

Arequipa

Nazca

Lima (one day, and then you will want to leave)

Amazon

Travel as light as possible, at the end of your trip go to a local market, buy a large bag and stuff as many hammocks in it as possible.

If you're going to spend any prolonged time in the forest and have a half decent camera then I'd recommend buying a sailing tub and silica salts to store your camera/binoculars in. The humidity will lead to mould growth and kill them. Something like this.

Can be easily rigged up to carry over your shoulder, back or chest. This info is based on Brasil.

That sounds right to me. I was down there in July and pretty much did that.

Wasn't the biggest fan of Lima. Do the Inca trail for sure. (Make sure you leave a day or two in Cuzco.. strangely enough i liked it. Arequipa was pretty nice too i thought.

The whole Puno-Copa Cabana- Lake Titicaca trek was good (try the trout). Not many people have good things to say about La Paz (Bolivia's capital), but I enjoyed it.

It you get time Phanuthier get yourself to Chile. Gorgeous country.

Drink pisco when you're in town and eat ceviche. Peruvian food is great and the seafood in particular! Enjoy the rich culture of the country.
