Default Futureshop PSP Question

a) I don't care if you like PSP or not... I have a valid question.

b) Yes, I used to work there, but this never came up...

So my XBOX 360 decides that it will work for a while... then decide not to read the disk. Tonight it was after the final whistle on a 6-3 Win on NHL08. I know I can call Microsoft to get "The Box" and have them fix it, but as I stated before, I used to work at FF... I know people there that I could probably just get a new unit.

Anyways... I know that without PSP Futureshop has a hard time dealing with Manufacturers Warrienty (PS - I can't spell). More so, they don't usually. But if you purchase the PSP, they use that for the 1st year.

Now my XBOX is only about 5 months old... if that. If I take it in and use my 3 year PSP, do I lose the rest of the three years?

I never had this come up when I worked there.

The other question is, if I use the Microsoft "Box", is my PSP still valid?

I'm going to ask the people I work with too, but just wanted to see if anyone here had to deal with this on anything at Futureshop.

I'm a former employee of FS as well...

If you send it in and they FIX it, you still have the remainder of your contract.

If they just replace it for you, the contract is deemed "fullfilled" and you would no longer be covered by FS unless you bought another PSP contract

I'm not familular with microsofts "Box" thing... but yes you still should be covered by PSP (90% sure)

I would use PSP if you got that, because you should get a brand new one off the shelf as opposed to sending your old one to MS and get a refurbished one in return. Unless this has changed, you have a couple of choices usually when exercising your PSP - apply the remainder of the term on the replacedment product OR extend your PSP on the replacement product (at an extra cost).

Also, if you do use manufacturer's warranty, I'd check with FS to see if it voids your PSP. The PSP is attached to the serial number on the receipt. Your replacement from MS will not be the one you sent away.

EDIT: jroc might be correct in the PSP no longer being valid if replaced (unless another is purchased for the replacement). I haven't been involved with the organization since university. Which was a long time ago.

I've got a PSP brochure sitting in front of me.

1) Manufacturer's warranty is your primary means of redress if it is still in effect and it covers the problem that you're having.
2) If FS replaces your product under the PSP, the PSP does NOT continue on the replacement product.

Any time an item is replaced by Future Shop (under the context of an attached PSP), the PSP attached to it is considered "fulfilled."

You are given the option of purchasing a new PSP for the new item at the time the replacement is performed.

So do you get a ring of death? Or discs just dont read? Cus XBOX has extended their "ring of death" warranty to a full 3 years now, and if that is your problem, even if you have PSP, FS will tell you to send it to Microsoft and have them fix it. If it is not the ring of death, since it is within one year, they will make you send it to MS, and your PSP will still be valid.

My concern with that is if Microsoft can't fix it... they'll ship out a new unit... different serial number. My PSP may not cover the new serial number. I'm gonna stop in and talk to my peeps.

Nope that will be fine. The PSP in that case will have done nothing, covered nothing, so it will still be valid, they will just move your PSP over.

I hope you don't mind if I hijack your thread...it is about a 360 though.

I'm wanting to buy a 360 Elite sometime next friday/saturday (12th-13th of this month). I've looked at Best Buy, Futureshop's websites, and checked their in-store quantity, but they've been at zero for quite sometime. I've been to a couple Walmarts/Zellars and they don't seem to carry them in-store either. Is my only option to order one online and wait for delivery? I even tried ordering one online and doing the in-store pickup but it seems the Elite is unavailable for pickup that way. Lame.

Anyone know of a place where I can just walk in the damn store and buy an Elite on the spot? I'd go with a premium, but I don't trust the older 360's. The newer premiums with the new heatsink aren't available in Canada yet unless you buy the Elite or Halo version of 360.

Try smaller places like EBGames, Rogers Video or Blockbuster and maybe Toys R Us.

Acording to my FS Guru friends... this is correct... I have to send it out, and if they replace it at Microsoft... The PSP can be moved over...

Thank KG...

The Perfomance Service Plan suppliments your manufacturer warranty. FS will tell you you have to call microsoft within the 1st year anyways. After that, the only thing that negates your Service Plan is if it has physical or water damage, or if it is fully replaced.

OK, so looking on Microsoft's website... I see this:

Delete or remove any files or data you consider private or confidential before sending the Xbox Product to Microsoft. Copy and keep any files or data stored on the Xbox Product that you don't want to lose.

Now I don't have anything private or confidential... I don't even know how to get those things on there... but I don't know how to back my files up either. I don't want to lose my saved games, or my downloads...

How do I back up my files?

You're not supposed to send in your hard drive, Prottotype, unless that is what is broken, in which case, you won't be able to back up anything. I know someone that sent in their hard drive and MS lost it. Took alot of arguing with MS before they finally sent him a hard drive back and it wasn't the one he sent in in the first place, so he basically lost all his local saves and any content he downloaded from arcade.

EDIT: This was for the Red Ring of Death issue BTW. Obviously if the rep you speak to tells you to include your hard drive for your particular issue, you send it in.

Don't use up your PSP, once it's used, it's gone.

Yeah, that's right. Don't send anything they don't tell you to send, that includes things like cables. The rep should tell you what you need to send and if not I'd make a point of asking him/her. They need to record the serial numbers for the devices you're sending in so everything is accounted for.

Or you could end up like my buddy, who waited several weeks for his console to come back and then another several weeks of arguing with MS and finally getting a hard drive back but losing all content he paid to download. He's lucky they even sent one back to him IMO, considering there is no record of him ever send it.

So, it's sounding more and more positive...

I talked to another one of my FS compadres... XBOX 360 is rumoured to be an over the counter exchange in the first year. PSP or not. I'm going to try and prove that theory tomorrow...

But I've also heard rumours of an NHL08 glitch that causes freezing... anyone?
