Am really digging the new Green Day remake of "I Fought the Law". Then again I like Green Day period.

There was a long thread about this on the old board. Here is a site with lots of info. on cover songs:
http://www.coversproject.com/
I prefer cover songs that sound nothing like the original. What point is there in playing a song note-for-note? I want to hear a new interpretation.
Some covers surpass the original, or sound completely different. Ex. Jimi Hendrix covering Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower", or Derek & the Dominoes doing Hendrix's "Little Wing".

As far as I'm concerned, if you're covering a song by someone, you should put your own twist on it. For example when my band covers While My Guitar Gently Weeps, we play the first few verses and choruses with a punk beat and power chords, then after the third verse slow it down to a regge/ska beat and on our CD got a Brazillian guitar hero to solo over it. It sound nothing like the original, and you music purists would hate it, but I find it fun. You couldn't tell that the ska part is the song, all it uses are the barre chords with a funk bass line.

I'd probably have to kill you. A punk/ska cover of the Beatles? Nobody sounds good covering the Beatles, but intentionally butchering them is grounds for death by me forcing you to eat baseballs until something bad happens.

Here's one that nobody's heard of, I'm sure.
Frazier Chorus doing the wussiest cover EVER of "Anarchy in the UK".
Let me know if you want to hear it - it's been deleted from their original label a number of years ago but I have a copy...

I didn't know you were in a band kermit. Where can we hear some of your group's stuff?
And although I agree with you in saying that if a group/artist is going to cover a song, their own spin should be put on it, one notable exception, and one of my favorite covers is Jimmy Buffett's version of "Brown Eyed Girl." I suppose he gives it a caribbean feel, but it's still pretty much the same song. Just better.

Nowhere that I'll inform you of! We have a CD, but basically it's crap because the singer sucks ass.. we needed someone and I knew a guy who sang in a band, so we asked him.
You'd never know the WMGGW was actually the song. If we had a good singer it would probably be a good version.. It's just really fun to play all punkified..
