Default President Stephen Colbert?

Tons of hint dropping these last couple days. From Larry King to the Daily Show. I think he's posturing to test the waters and see how serious a response he can get. He's an incredibly smart guy that pwn's every debate...It would be awesome if he ran.

Problem is it's impossible to tell when he's serious.

He officially announced he's running in tonight's episode. I guess you missed that.

Then finally, we can get a Dungeons and Dragons master in the Whitehouse (I'm serious, that game was his life in highschool).

Yea I saw that after I posted this. I don't know what to think though...He doesn't seem to be taking it very seriously.

That's because it's a joke. Colbert is a parody persona. I hope you don't think that anything Colbert has ever said in his persona was serious or meant to be anything but entertainment. He's not a "seriously smart guy that pwns every debate". He's just a fearlessly trained Second City comedian and entertainer who is quick on his wits and overall a pretty decent guy.

I'm well aware that he is in character throughout the entirety of his show. And yes it is, for the time being, nothing more than a publicity stunt for his show/book...But from what it sounds like he's throwing his name in for real. What if he gets past the primaries?

What I'm saying is he wont get serious until he finds out what his chances are.

I'd actually say he's got a pretty good chance, he'll take it as far as he can take it and gracefully bow out in some hilarious fashion to expose the underlying faults and inherent comedy of the American political system. He always does this...like his guitar solo dual with the Decemberists where he was about to shred when he "injured" himself.

As Colbert (character) is a die-hard Republican, he'll have to run on the Republican ticket and there is no way the Republican Party will actually nominate him as candidate if it gets that far.

Colbert doesn't have to get past the primaries, as he'll likely run as an independent. There is no way he can run as a Republican candidate. He doesn't have the capital, and isn't a Republican. I do believe that Colbert himself has stated on his show that he is registered as an independent, just like Papa Bear O'Reilly (and come on, no political party, no matter how far right wing, could contain the conservative leanings of Stephen Colbert) so no worries of a Republican nomination for him.

Except this won't a completely god-awful comedy, lacking any form of wit and humour.

Colbert said on his show last night he is running both as a republican and a democrat.

Agreed. It could have been a great movie and ended up being the worst Robin Williams movie ever. Ok maybe night listener was worse.

I thought he annoucned he was considering announcing that he may run for President? Guess not - I only saw The Daily Show last night, not The Colbert Report. He's only running in SC, too. So no worries about him really upsetting the apple cart.

Regardless, his whole "campaign" will be a great deal more entertaining than the real thing. And will likely generate a great deal more interest. Awesome!

You beat me to it. I haven't seen that flick yet but it would be hilariously awesome if he ran for real. Only in America can a comedian be elected president...they already elected a ###### so why not a funny man with a quick wit???

Watching alot of the candidate competition. Honestly. He could easily take this.

More people watch his show (and believe it to a certain degree) each night than watch and believe these idiots yell at each other on Fox News and CNN all year combined.

So, am i the only one who tires of the Stephen Colbert shtick? I mean, yes, I sorta like the guy, and I know it's sorta funny...but how much of an act based entirely on irony and sarcasm can one take? It's so tiring. Give me Jon Stewart any day...
