I disagree with the girl in the article 100%. I'm totally against cheating and I do feel that in the end, if you cheat, you're the one who will end up suffering.

I will admit that I have cheated to some degree, sort of the brief glance ont he multiple choice question that is giving trouble, but when it comes to what she did it is an entirely different matter. What she did was she took a complete paper off the internet and tried to say it was hers?
I am not proud of the fact that I have cheated, but what I did it pales in comparison to what she did.

We discussed the poli-sci issue on another thread, which generally concluded that we're all about to drown in the same boat that's about to sink in the next two weeks if we don't pull our papers off. lol
Oh yeah, and cheating is for ass clowns.

I hope Ralph Klein watches 20/20.
Seriously though, you have to be pretty dim to hand in a paper that can be found on the internet.

I admit, I tried cheating once, but I was also caught and ended up fixing the situation. Turns out I'm better at plea bargaining than cheating.
However, what irks me are the people that cheat all the time and never get caught. Then thinking they are hot stuff because their marks are so high but in reality would be failing horribly.

In high school me and a friend would "verify our answers" on multiple choice tests by the old "tap tap, tap tap tap tap" (b,d) method. I don't think cheating like that is nearly as severe as just jacking answers off someone.
But copying a paper off the internet? That's brutal, what a moron.

In high school cheating was pretty rampant (copying labs, assignments etc...no one really thought much of it as it was 'helping a buddy out' and such). The worst was in Physics 30 when our teacher just didn't care what we did. In the middle of tests and quizzes we would get away with saying "hey, what's the answer to number 3" and basically discussing how to get it, etc. Or the guy that sat in front of me who'd steal tests from me, look at it, then give it back. Fun times.
Looking back, definately not a good thing to do, and would never do it in Uni ever on anything...stakes are too high, and you lose in the end either by being caught or not really knowing the material.

No. I have never cheated in school.
When I was in grade-school, I was too afraid to cheat for the fear of getting caught. Now that I'm in university, I just don't see the point in cheating. Sure, you get the grades, but when you're out there working and you're on your own, you'll be screwed if you have to figure something out.
Engineering is notorious for cheaters. People copy labs, they copy assignments, they cheat on midterms. Although I know it's still possible to cheat on final exams, it's significantly harder, and I feel that cheating on all of the previous things (quizzes, assignments, labs etc) during the term will only screw you in the final. So what's the point? You're paying decent coin for the education. Might as well learn.

Pretty funny that it was the daughter of the St Louis Blues' owner that paid about $20,000 to get someone to do her schoolwork.
Guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

This was just on the tube here and well, it was pretty annoying. The guy featured in the article above (the one who wimped out and didn't want his face shown) was the ultimate smug jackass even though his face was blocked out (you could see his smirking mouth though).
He was yakking about it like he was some genius because he cheated. He was too dumb to do the work so the whole "bragging" thing was pretty silly. The reporter said "this is cheating" and he replied "some people look at it that way".
Another gal who got busted cheating was also confronted with the "you were cheating" line and she also said "some people look at it that way". Yeah some people look at it that way because that's what it is ya moron.
Best part of the whole thing -- they showed this girl who was talking about how easy it is to store answers in your phone and then find them when you are taking the test. She demonstrated the method by saying "you are taking an accounting test so you press this button (beep) and then click on this "goto accounting" and then you see the definitions right on the screen".
They had a tight shot of the screen and the first definition that she had listed was for the obscure accounting term "net revenue".

One thing that strikes me as odd is using a cell phone for cheating in an exam. What kind of teacher would actually allow them? It's like bringing your own coffee grinder and perculator to class... it's just stupid.
For example the girl RougeUnderoos mentions. Wouldn't someone notice that she's using her cell phone? Programmable calculators I can see, but cell phones?

I haven't really ever cheated on an exam in university. Mainly because there have been few opportunities where it would have benefited me much. I would never cheat off someone else either because I wouldn't trust some strangers answers.
With that said I don't really have a problem with it. There is a benefit (getting a better mark) and a tradeoff (the chance of getting caught). If people decide it's worth it go for it, just be prepared to deal with the consequences. Personally I've always found that the benefit is not worthe the risk of getting caught.

I think it totally makes sense to cheat in university. Half of the stuff you learn in most programs you won't use at any time anyways. The only concern I would ever have with cheating is the possibility of getting caught, but even then you could probably talk your way into only getting an F on the test or paper in most cases.

Why not just go to SAIT then? Sort of defeats the point if you are going to ignore all the stuff you "won't use" later on. Might as well cheat in high school as well, and junior high. Lots of us don't use geometry in our daily lives so I guess we should have cheated/ignored it in grade 3.
I don't mean to jump all over you but I just don't get that attitude.
