[Signing] Carolina Signs Brian Boyle 3yrs, $9M (AAV $3.0)
BIGGER STRONGER FASTER
2 OUT OF 3 AIN'T BAD
The Carolina Hurricanes agreed to terms with Brian Boyle today on a 3 year deal that will pay him $3.0M per season. Brian became go to utility players for the Hurricanes after his acquisition, being able to center the 3rd line but also contribute key minutes playing wing on either the John Tavares line or alongside Patrice Bergeron.
With the “new” CPHL ratings, it was unsure if Brian’s game would fit into the Hurricanes long term plans as Brian was brought in last year to fill a targeted void… a void that the new direction the CPHL has taken may no longer apply. For some time team management were forced into making a decision to stay the course or allocate what remaining cap space the ‘Canes hold into trying to fill holes created by the league new found direction.
The Hurricanes were able to come to and agreement with Brian late last night with the view that Brian would be beneficial to the ‘Canes in the new CPHL. The addition of Brian will cast a long shadow over the future of Dave Bolland and whether he will become expendable as a result.
