“Canes lock down their core for another season. After coming to a contract agreement with franchise center John Tavares both Tyle Seguin and goaltender Semyon Varlamov quickly came to terms with Hurricanes management with contracts of their own. The trio now join forces with Karl Alzner and Brandon Sutter, who each committed last offseason to long term deals, to ensure that the Carolina Core remains together and try to lead their team to the post season.
This could be the final year for the Core to finally pull through and show management that it has what it takes to lead a team to what has eluded the franchise for so long…

“This is where I want to play hockey, I know I left some dollars on the table but I’m treated very well in Raleigh and I’m still heavily paid to play the game I love. Once management agree that I was assured I would be paid more then Seguin its was pretty easy from there. No way did I want to hear a full season from him about how he makes more money then me or Berg…. It was hard enough listening to him whine all season long about how underpaid he thought he was last year… ” - John Tavares
Contract Terms

“I got a text from Johnny saying he just signed for 1 yr @7M, so I demanded more. Wait till the boys hear about this one, I’m making more then John! I’m going to ride him all year long. I even got management to agree that who ever makes more gets to pick numbers first, lol… wait till Johnny hears he has to pick a new number because I’m wearing 91. It’s a new Era boys!” - Tyle Seguin

“I had rough beginning to season just past, was fighting puck all year. Was able to turn game around but no where close to level of hockey I play that got me huge deal previous. I ask management I rather not sign long term deal, prove I elite goalie and sign long term deal then for more money. Very happy they agree and I play again for Hurricanes” - Semyon Varlamov
