Default Calling all Architects and High-Schoolers

Under-appreciated local architects! Students with a dream! Elitist snobs! Dingers!

Your chance has finally come to design the new bridge over St. Patricks Island. Does this bridge have two spans? Better up that budget to 75 Million.

If Banff can built a bridge for 2 million, we should be able to build like 10 of them side by side...in case people don't want to share.

I woke up this morning and was reading a book on ancient times, and I decided that we need to combine the functionality of crossing the river with the fun of an amusement park. We can even make money of the venture.

I propose for 25 million dollars that we buy two catapults and two cannons and four safety nets.

We mount a cannon and a catapult on each bank and a park of safety nets on each bank. Then we can start blasting people across the river.

We can also build a wacky fun pair of rope bridges and a pair of zip lines.

People can be charged the following

$1 to use the rope bridge.
$3 to use the zip line
$5 for the Catapult
$10 for the express service cannon.

Effective cost

-$1000.00

Make sure there is a nice flat area near the top for CPers to jump if the Flames start slow this season.

Can't we just hire a world renowned architect to do it? I bet we can get it done, with fee's, for around 25 mil. Plus you would save three months and all that short listing trouble.

Do we really want a Batman bridge? I mean come on... I liked the Dark Knight movie as much as everyone else but I don't think that the criminal element of our city would like it, not to mention all the Marvel fans. Won't someone think about the criminals!

Hitler! Do you support Hitler or do you support the bridge?

Well since we're going to have a bridge at the front of downtown that looks basically like a giant penis wearing a multicolored condom wouldn't it be logical that the next bridge looks like a set of anal beads going into the rear of downtown calgary.

Then we can call ourselves the sexually liberated city. Think of what it would look like from space.

Well you know what they say. If you can't love yourself, who can you love?

Okay, I am about ready to hand in my proposal but wanted to solicit feedback from all the bridge experts on here first.

This is a cable stay bridge consisting of two bridge towers shaped in the forms of cowboy boots at each end of the bridge.

Each main cable is connected to a giant cowboy hat in the middle of the bridge that people will actually walk through. Both the boots and hat are subtle allusions to the history of Calgary.

Because bridges are hard to make and are best left up to the experts I added a supporting column on the island because I have no idea if my cables are strong enough to hold. It is a brick cube that represents the architecture found in and around Calgary.

The entire deck is enclosed in chain link fencing so that it can not be vandalized and so crackheads don't fall in the river.

Whadya think?

This is an interesting RFP that came out, to say the least.

hmmphh...

I think the old bridge is just fine the way it is. It adds character and is almost a heritage site.

Not really, just the way some stuff is explained in there, that's all. No surprises.
