Mine is a nickname given to me by my friends (I didn't make it up and start calling myself it). It comes from my last name.

Mine, well it means what it means, (Although I am about as City as it gets aside from the little Country that might get played in my car). And now it did not come from Big Brother, in fact I have thought about changing because of it. Then again my handle will long out last that dim wits fame.....

Well when I started posting a couple of years ago, I started on Sportsnet and everyone would not stop bashing Roman Turek.
I for one loved him for the 20ish games in 2001, and thought I was "the_only_turek_fan"
When Sportsnet changed to there new forum, I didnt like it and I came here and decided to keep the same name.

Mine comes from the nickname for Walter Johnson when he played in Weiser, Idaho. Which is where I take up residence.

My name is a good luck charm for the Flames. It commemorates the red underwear I wore for every game during the 1989 playoffs.
The underwear is long gone, unfortunately.
Anyhow, during the San Jose series this year the Flames lost 2 in a row to a team coached by Tim Hunter (see below) so I felt I, and the Flames, needed a change for good luck.
I chose the French version of the word red as an offering to the hockey gods who had seen fit to punish us for being the only team to ever win the Cup in Frenchland (Montreal). As we all know -- the Flames immediately turned it around and trounced San Jose.
Sadly, I think the French aspect of my handle gave some strength to the French aspect of the Tampa Bay Lightning and they were able to take out the Flames in the end.
Sometimes I wonder what would have happened had I changed my name to RedGinch after Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final.

I heard mine somewhere in early highschool. "King of kings! Cool, that's a great nick!" for service in Warcraft II and Command & Conquer multiplayer games. Currently a knee-jerk to a nickname request. Unfortunately, its been since tarnished by the brutal Troy, and I may have to search for one that hasn't been sullied.

I'm addicted to Flames hockey - get it?
It's also a play on the name of one of my favourite rock bands - Jane's Addicition. I'm sure most of the gen Xers on here picked up on that.

looger was what my classmates called me.
one group of drinking buddies called me 'barney' - as in the, "hey - someone spilled beer in this ashtray... slurrrrp," barney.
and another group of drinking buddies call me 'link', as in 'the missing...'
and a more recent group of drinking buddies call me 'Lingy' but it's more of a variation on my surname, so it's not quite a nickname.
