25 Best Arrested Development Moments
http://www.progressiveboink.com/archive/arrested.html
Good list, but hard to choose from so many.
Easily my favourite show of all time. Though, The Office (US version) may overtake it one day.

Michael: Get rid of the Seaward.
Lucille: I'll leave when I'm good and ready.

greatest TV show not in cartoon format ever made. just too bad that the average american viewer can't take in anything beyond the same tired sitcom tripe that's on TV now

Well, I like the list, but there was a lot left off that I would have added. I loved Tobias trying out for the Blueman group. I just like how in some episodes it wasn't necessarily mentioned but you would see blue paint all over the house. Thought that was a nice touch. I also liked a lot of the stuff with Lucille and her maid Lupe. Henry Winkler as the family lawyer was brilliant.... so many different moments to chose from....
I really am quite disappointed that the show was cancelled. There was so much they could have done with that show.

I never ever get tired of reading this complete and sweeping generalization...."if you didnt/dont like it, you're a moron".
I guess I'm just average as well then...because i never ever found that show funny at all, and believe me I tried.
We had a friend staying with us for while when he needed a place who was a cousin to one of the cast members.

I'd love to see the statistical data that led you to that conclusion. How did you determine which 'average Americans' to poll? How did you determine which shows to poll them on?
It must have been a lot of work to but together a study like that! Can't wait to see it!

I loved when they had him literally jumping over a shark.
A reference to the infamous 'jumping the shark' moment in Happy Days.

well then tell me why great shows like Arrested Development, Dead Like Me, and Firefly can get cancelled while still gaining large critical acclaim, but trash like Joey can get another season. to me TV is in the same boat as mainstream music, a successful pattern is found and milked for all it's worth and quality stuff gets lost in the mass of crap
and yes, i am a little bitter

I can't believe they left out, "I think I'll put it in her brownie..." or Bob Loblaw.

Joey is still on? No argument from me on that stuff, just don't blame it on ME. Arrested Development wasn't marketed very well. Believe me, I thought it was on HBO and that's why I could never watch it. We used to love Dead Like Me. Never heard of Firefly. I can give you more too....Millenium was an outstanding show that was cancelled before its time was up IMO.
Mainstream music has been this way for 30 years.
If the problem was what you say it is there wouldn't be anything worth watching on TV. There are still some great shows on.
And lets not forget, this is a forum that dominated by Canadians that goes bananas over Survivor, Amazing Race and Big Brother....etc. I don't think you can throw barbs my way (not personal I know) when you see that kind of stuff here.

Of course its not just Americans that didn't watch AD.
BUT, I think its pretty obvious that Fox wouldn't care how well they do in Canada, as opposed to the US.
Their target audience is going to be the US, so even if it had been greatly successful here, it wouldn't make a difference. It did rely on the response from the average American.

Of course, and I wouldn't deny that. But there is plenty of shallowness in the average Canadian as well. Hemicuda seemed to be making an effort to make a distinction.
Like I said, they did a really bad job of marketing AD. I watch several Fox shows and I never watched AD because I didn't even know it was available to me. Sad too, because from the descriptions of the show that I've read it was probably right up my alley.

I honestly don't see anything wrong with saying that the average American viewer was not interested in Arrested Development for laughs. When you look at the kinds of shows that are popular on television these days, they're all the same cookie cutter, canned crap that is not offensive to anyone and isn't willing to explore anything other than "what works."
The fact of the matter is that Arrested Development was a smartly written show that takes you four or five views to completely notice everything in it, and that's not "what works" in television in the United States right now.
As for my favourite moments... I have to agree with EG about all the blue on the walls in the second season. There is just more and more of it and you only notice it once in a while. Tobias' slip and fall after Lucille was spilling her drink had me in tears, and the "Those are balls" line was one of the funniest deliveries I've ever heard. Not to mention some of the absolutely crass comments like Lucille saying "Everyone loves the Jews." And all the guest stars... ugh, why did it have to get cancelled?
Tobias was defitinely my favourite...
"Looks like I Blue myself too soon!"
"I'm on....T...V.."
"Do these effectively hide my thunder?"
And shooting the floor when he was a mall security guard... AHAHAHAAA
I still watch all of the DVDs regularly and laugh harder and harder each time.
I recommend that anyone who loves Tobias check out David Cross' comedy CDs. Absolutely hilarious! His electric scissors bit is brilliant!

That's an exaggeration.

I'd have to say anything with Gob performing his magic act, IT'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWNNNNNNNNNN!
Also Tobias was brilliant as the world's #1 analrapist.

I know, I know. I realized it was totally wrong as soon as I wrote it. I'm going to crack open season 1 right now for the 20th viewing.

sigh, maybe i should have said north american. i know the general canadian populace is just as shallow as the US is, i wasn't trying to make such a distinction. and i'm not throwing barbs at anyone in particular, save for maybe the TV networks. it's their fault for cancelling the decent shows and banking on the same old crap and it's the public's fault for eating it right up
all the shows you mentioned are utter crap, but they prove my point. it seems the only successful TV shows today fall into one of 3 categories. standard sitcom, reality tv, or continual drama. i will deffinetly agree with you on the crap marketing though and the sporadic timeslots and new episode airings, as we've seen with Family Guy and Futurama before AD, Fox really knows how to kill a great show with stupid decisions
