Interesting trade for the Ducks as they filled a need here at forward but Henrique is 27 years old with a career high of 50 points. Seems like the Devils got the better player as it's like a quality for quantity trade.

Ducks really needed a center.
Derek Grant was their #1 center..yes the one that played for our AHL team

Probably because Cam Fowler's reemergence as a good defenseman allowed them to move one of their good young defenders to fill holes elsewhere in their lineup.
The team is aging, and they have a lot of injuries up front, so I'm guessing they're looking for immediate help to push for a playoff run before getzlaf/perry/kesler start to decline any more.

Interesting side note: Sami Vatanen had a Limited NTC (12 teams he'd allow a trade to) that was set to kick in next season (2018-19).
By rule of the CBA, the #Devils now have the option to honor that clause, or have it nullified seeing as it has yet to take affect.

Yep. When you see how decimated the Ducks are with injuries and where they are in the standings, it really puts into perspective how terrible Gulutzan is.
Seems like a fair deal to me, slight win for the Devils IMO.

I like this deal a lot for the Devils. Henrique is okay but it's not easy to get a legit top 4 defenceman and Vatanen is solid.
