Just got notice our house was visited by "Simply Green" who are presenting City of Calgary credentials and representing that they have a contract to do water system upgrades in our house that will be subsidized by the City, which involves a demonstration of how our water supply has cancer causing agents. Typical high pressure sales BS but sounds a bit sketchy with how they are presenting themselves. Worth mentioning to anyone in your life prone to being taken in by these things.
These guys (one guy) came to my door on Friday evening. Wanted to come in and look at my furnace ducting to see if I was eligible for an "upgrade". I shoo'd them away.
He was talking about checking for uninsulated ducting, etc. that would qualify me for some sort of efficiency upgrades. I didn't talk to him long enough to find out what the catch was, cost, etc. If you come to my door uninvited, I will almost certainly tell you to get lost.

Nobody representing the city would represent that to anyone.
Personally I think that there should be a law in place that allows you to kick these people and high pressure door to door people in the junk.
It'd be good for the economy, the environment, the moral of everyone around the kicker and the kicker themselves.

Lol! I got scammed in by these donkeys on Saturday as well! Luckily wifey had heard about them and promptly shut down the guy when they came back to do the test. We're in West Hillhurst.

The real question here is...does it cause autism? You should ask them that in a clear, serious, and concerned voice.
One time I answered the door, and ended up making a witness statement about a serious crime that police were investigating. Of course that won't be the case 99% of the time though!
A Simply Green Salesmen came to my house back in early Dec. SW. I usually do not open my door to randoms but they rang twice in a minute span so I wondered if it was police or someone needing help. Your average solicitor leaves after 1 ring. He got in the door by using the same lie about City of Calgary credentials. I am too trusting. Thought about it, but the next day saw on Twitter a warning that these guys were liars and their "City of Calgary" credentials were BS.
I guess they thought they had a customer because they kept pestering me and ringing my doorbell for the next 3 days.

I mean all the power to you, but I really can't understand what is so scary/annoying/difficult about answering the door.
Some people simply can't say no to high pressure sales BS or much anything else. I have a friend who ended up with several of the door to door -things' (they aren't really scam because you get what they say you get, but you DON'T get the full story/disclosure most would actually want...) because she's simply an incredibly soft mark, and they make enough off people like that, that, like the telephone scammers, it's worthwhile enough to keep doing. She has 'solved' this problem by simply not answering the door unless you call her and tell her that you are outside.
What a world we live in. I remember when people answered their doors and their phones. They also knew their neighbors names and said hello to people on the street. When did we get so cynical?

I'm confused. Is this an argument for or against answering the door?

True, I really can't say. But it was for some guy that shot up a car full of three people the night before, so I didn't mind helping out with what I saw or knew.
Also, living in Montreal I had some awesome gas leak evacuations by the fire department. But I guess when they're almost kicking down your door, you're going to answer.
