Default Sportsnet 31 in 31 Preview: Flames

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/2...algary-flames/

Warning: Mark Spector piece

Quote:
Calgary had the eighth-most wins in the NHL from Jan. 1 onwards last season. It was a poor start that rendered Calgary a wildcard team.

This season, a consistent 82-game performance should more than make up the nine points that separated Calgary and second-place Edmonton in the Pacific.

For a Spector piece it's fairly tame - besides that obvious annoying trolly comparison to his beloved Coilers. Made some valid points that we've all said here anyways.

I reckon that these articles are a bit more interesting when you are less in tune with the organisation. Nothing revolutionary in this assessment, especially when discussing concerns about goal tending.

Yah these articles are for people who don't follow the teams. They are not supposed to be ground breaking for fans of said team.

I think if you are an NHL fan with very little knowledge of the Flames you are likely thinking the number one thing to watch for is the goaltending.

Is he a winger? Why can’t Bennett replace Micheal Ferland on the Flames’ top line with Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau?

If the organization wants him there, but his play won’t allow Gulutzan to play him there, then that’s an issue for the Flames.
When has the organization indicated that Bennett is

A) A winger
or B
B) The guy they want with Monahan and Gaudreau

Not everyone's 2014 "center" draft pick is a winger playing with their best player whose GM explicitly states he is better as a winger, Mark.

The Oilers reference to a non-oilers thread begins at post 2... Nice work CP, I didn't think it was possible!

Kind of unavoidable when you have an oilers fanboy penning an article about the flames.

As those two go so too do the Flames, and they need to get inside the NHL’s Top 20 in scoring to fulfill their roles as Calgary’s go-to players offensively
It took me so long to get past that.

It took 9 posts in the Wideman thread so things are improving
