I too was wondering about that weird talk about Ortio being uncomfortable in net. He's looked comfortable at all times to me since his call-up.

Don't think Ortio will be sad to miss the AHL all star game if it means staying in the NHL. Not sure there is much benefit to sending him to a game where the goalies typically get hung out to dry either. Nice to be named, but I say he stays over the break.

The shots were 8-1 LA through the first half of the period

Just rewatched the first 10 minutes and I had the shots at 4-2 (giving LA the benefit of the doubt on one)
Not arguing with your point, just with the LA statisticians
Edit: they announced the shots as 8-1 at the 13 minute mark. I had them at 7-2 at that point, with 3 of LAs shots being wide IMO, but close enough that I counted them.

I don't keep track of shots, but what I watched in the first period was two teams playing a very even hockey game, with the single best chance at an actual goal going to Johnny Gaudreau in the slot who was robbed by Quick.

Monahan is one of the most clutch players I've ever witnessed in a Flames jersey.

That was the best hockey game I've seen Regehr play in years.
That being said, when he lays out our 2 most important franchise pieces and isn't held accountable, we have a problem with certain players understanding their role. (cough Bollig, Engellend, cough cough)

Were they clean, honest hits?

I don't know, the one on Mony was a bit late, not overly dirty tho. Don't know what other one he's taking about but I did see a cross check in the corner to the rib cage of Johnny, which could have been called imo. You could see that it hurt johnny and for someone the size of Regher to get johnny in the ribs you have to know it wad intentional!

I don't really care if they were clean, honest hits.
Giordano and Monahan are the two most important pieces the franchise has right now. Someone smashes either, then our truculent pieces should be responding.
Let me put it a different way:
If Bollig and Engellend are not holding opponents accountable, what do they add to the team? Why are they here?

I think it was Smid who got leveled at the end and Giordano went after him.
Bollig and Engellend weren't getting much ice time near the end so it's got to be a regular that steps up.

Nah, Gio was the one who was hit into the boards (not from behind), then he went after Regher himself.

Dennis Wideman is the 3rd Star on NHL.com

In a tie game, in the third, where points are this crucial and you're playing the team you're battling with for a playoff spot, taking a dumb retaliation penalty is completely unforgivable

I agree with you in concept. But to be fair, Bollig got a penalty for half-heartedly pushing Stoll with one arm in front of our net after the whistle earlier in the game. I feel like the refs / league are being extra hard on "tough guys" and Bollig is probably told by coaching staff to stay out of the box. Makes it difficult to make opponents accountable as a tough guy.
I might be more upset with Bollig if he takes a penalty "defending" Gio at that crucial stage in the game after a clean hit. Cheap shot on the other hand...by all means make them pay.

I wonder how they decide that. Ortio was the NHL.com first star of the game.
Good for Wideman though. He is too under appreciated by many.

Stoll looked like he got hit by Regehr at full speed rather than take a one handed shove from Bollig. That was BS.

From the time Gio got hit, I doubt Bollig or Engelland saw any ice time at all.
