Chuck Gormley @ChuckGormleyCSN
Nicklas Backstrom assisted on the goal that made Sergei Fedorov Russia's goal-scoring king in 2008. He's done it again with Ovechkin.

Backstrom is one of the best playmakers right now

Fedorov not Federov. Title is spelled incorrectly.
It took Fedorov 1,248 games to get that record. Ovechkin does it in 777. Unbelievable.

Fedorov is my favorite player of all time, so I'll jump in with a biased Fedorov > Ovie

Fedorov is one of the best two way players ever to play the game. He filled the role the Wings needed - if they had allowed him to focus on just offense he would have put up an unreal amount of points.

There are very few players, if any who have done as much for the game on and off the ice and over the last 5 years he has matured into an extremely respectable player.

Different teammates, different era, and somewhat different games.
Also worth noting, Fedorov only had one season in which he scored more than 40 (56)
It is a off year for Ovi if he doesnt put 50 in. He is also leaned upon in a much heavier way to carry his team where as Fedorov always had equally elite talent around him!
I am not saying 1 is better than the other but to call one of the top 3 players in the game over the last 10 years a goof because of how he handled himself in his first few seasons is not fair.

Top 3 offensive players in the last decade.
Not one of the top 3 players.

Well I guess it is debatable
More times than not, when you ask someone for their list of top players it is mostly comprised of forwards. It is also typically goal scorers. Ie Crosby, Stamkos, Ovechkin, Kane.

It's funny how guys always look for excuses to put an asterisk beside Ovi's stats. Oh all he does is focus on offense. Not a 2-way guy. yada yada yada.
Fact is, no one puts the puck in the net better.

He said the same thing about Subban. Just roll your eyes and scroll by (not telling you what to do, just a suggestion).

Subban and Ovechkin are two legitimate role models for children or athletes. Finding something bad to say about them is nitpicking at the best the league has to offer.

Do you always have an Ovi-boner?
