There's a new Fish and Chip place that just opened up on 12th ave S.W called the British Isles. I haven't tried it yet though, so I have no idea if it's any good.
In my search for fried chicken, I found that Fritou Chicken and Chicken on the Way both do fish and chips. They're not bad.
The other alternative is to go to Costco and buy a box of those Pubhouse Battered Halibut filets. It's not a bad deal, though not very crispy.
Seriously, I don't think there is much of anything great here in Calgary. You would be better off buying a couple of filets and frying them yourself. I'd go with red snapper. A nice compromise between too soft cod, and too expensive halibut.
The question I have is what is with Brits now smothering their fish & chips with curry sauce? This seemed to be the norm the last few times I was there.

It is a northern thing, and I gotta say I like it.
Last time I was up in Yorkshire, I was pissed off to find that my favorite chippy in Huddersfield is now a Paddy Power Bookmaker. The town center is now full of crappy burger, pizza and kebab joints. Which is pretty much the situation in a lot of places now.
I like Cap'n Scotts in the far NE (http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/15/19029...-Chips-Calgary) They tend to keep small business hours so they aren't open super late. If it is going to be a journey then you may want to call ahead to make sure they are open.

So the wife and I decided on Pelican Pier (recommendations in this thread and the older thread and proximity in the NW, otherwise I would have probably given the British Chippy a try).
All in all, not a bad meal. I wouldn't say this would qualify as British style fish & chips, a little too healthy (relatively speaking), but it was good and decently priced. I'm pretty sure they fried the French fries in peanut oil, which left a peanuty taste (I don't care for nuts), but I did eat all of them so they weren't that bad. I think it is worthy of a return visit.
