So, we're back and it's January 1969. A very eventful year to end a very eventful decade. There are 14 episodes left (including this one), and I assume the finale will probably take us to New Year's Eve.
This "half season" will be 7 episodes long, and since Mad Men usually jumps about a month per episode, I assume this year's final episode will feature the moon landing in July.
The Manson family murders happened in August 1969, and there are certainly similarities between Megan and the victims. I doubt they'll rewrite history to make her one of the victims, but I could see the murders being a focal point that either brings Don and Megan together, or drives them apart, depending on how each of them react.
This was a typical season premiere to set the scene and let us know where everyone is at. There don't seem to be a lot of happy people around there right now.
I can't remember the last time I saw Neve Campbell in anything, but she was looking good, although, it took me a while to recognize her. I assume we'll see her again at some point.

Not much discussion about this season, but I think it's been fantastic thus far. Fantastic writing as always, and I love how the pace of the show varies between episodes. Last night's episode was wild!

I've been watching this series the whole time and I still can't figure out who we're supposed to root for. None of the characters have any redeeming qualities. I can't figure out the motivation for why they do half the things they do.
And I feel like Peggy is supposed to be a protagonist, but why do they portray her as a huge bitch?
I think this whole show is over my head.

The show definitely feels like it's slipped into a crack and is rudderless. The fact that this is the last season and being broken into two 8 show parts is going to make it less relevant.
It's too bad, it really started out so amazing.

I think this season started slowly but the last three episodes have been great. It seems like the whole series could be split into the rise, the fall, and now the redemption of Don Draper. Although he's not fully there, you can see it building.
And I wonder if they're setting up something between Betty and Don? Both their marriages seem to be hitting the rocks simultaneously. Add to that, the kids starting to see their step-father as more of a villain and Sally with a renewed perspective on her father, it just seems like the logical thing for that to happen.
But with this show, the characters always seem to find a way to screw up a good thing when they have it. It's an ongoing theme.

Easily the best episode of this season tonight.

That was the best episode in a long time.
Great ending with the "family" dinner at the end. Is Draper-Campbell-Olson the agency of the future?

I don't really see this season as much of a step down from previous ones. This show is just so good and really blows most everything else out of the water. I'm looking forward to watching the whole series again after it's all over, which is something I rarely do.

Is anyone still watching Mad Men?
The last episode was great and really felt like the series finale. I am tempted to stop watching now as everything seems wrapped up and I am worried it will end like Dexter.

I'm kind of hoping for a Dexter ending because that would actually make sense in Mad Men with Don Draper. He's been running from himself, creating this life on his image, it's been cracking away for years, and in the end he ends up as old Dick Whitman again. Living the hobo life, doing odd jobs. It would fit with the overarching theme of "you can't change what you are".
I'd be content with that.
I'm wondering if we've seen the last of most of the characters and if the last episode is going to just be Don.

It really feels like the characters are all wrapped up. I just can't see an entire episode of Don settling into a new life. I am worried that they are going to ruin someone's properly completed storyline.

I wouldn't classify Peggy and Roger as wrapped up.

"Wrapped up" in terms of the time frame they're going to end in. I mean who knows what happens in her life ...
... but
That's a pretty amazing way to see a character for the last time. Especially with the knowledge of her journey and growth for context.

The show almost lost me a couple years ago. But this last season has been very good.
