Sammy Sosa is now a white male
Sammy Sosa, the former African-American MLB all-star, is now a white male.
This story kind of blew me away. Would not recognize him if he was sitting straight across from me. The article doesn't mention if it's a medical condition or simply by choice.

Much like the hamburgers he's been eating it is a choice, not a good choice but a choice none the less.

What is the difference between Sammy Sosa and the millions of people all over the world who use products and cosmetics to lighten their skin colour? I don't think these people are living as white people. It's an aesthetic choice.

He's Dominican, not African-American
It's somewhat common in the Dominican (and other places too I'm sure) to use skin creams to lighten pigmentation. He's been doing it for years

I guess after making $124 million you can do what you want to your skin but how do you explain it to your kids?
Stunning transformation but at least he didn't go full on Micheal Jackson and shave his lips and nose off!

I found Sosa’s sudden loss of ability to speak and understand English when before Congress a much more interesting story.

Latin America countries have this long standing issue with dark skin being ugly and looked down upon and light skin or white skin being the ideal beauty. Of course a lot of racism is involved in this thinking.

What's with all the white people tanning too? Not a good choice.

This is kind of old news as he's been doing this for a long time. IMO he's gone a little too far. Looked a little more natural in the middle picture where he was transitioning.

In Asia it is common to use bleaching agents on their skin. It is thought of as an influencer, racial superiority and a sign of nobility to have white skin plus they think it is more beautiful. They genuinely think their skin is not attractive. Servants who labored outside under the scorching sun had darker skin.

Whoops, yes my mistake on the above.
I guess I was just naïve to the fact that pigmenting your skin to lighten your skin was actually a thing, anywhere.

Interesting insight into how other cultures view being light skinned.
I would not have recognized Sammy if he came up and kicked me

If your last memories of when he was playing it would be hard to recognize him today given he's probably 50 lbs lighter (take a look at pictures of him in his jacked up playing days) and whiter than most white people.

Any chance he was not on creatine but was drinking white-out?

Meanwhile whenever we're down there, we're envious of their olive/bronze skin and work hard to darken our pasty, pinkish bodies as we feel ugly in comparison. Ohh irony..
