Default Jakub Nakladal injury

Unfortunately, his audition may be coming to an abrupt end, as he left today's game with the Pittsburgh Penguins mid-way through the second period after a stick caught him under the shield in his facial area.

I sure hope that he is okay.

It was the Pittsburgh player's second effort with the high stick that injured him. There needs to be more done by the NHL about recklessness with sticks besides just giving a 2 to 4 minute penalty. When players are that careless, suspensions should be considered.

Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
#Flames D Jakub Nakladal was, per usual, smiling in locker-room after game. He doesn't believe his right-eye injury is serious.

I guess we'll find out tomorrow or Monday if Wotherspoon or Kulak are called up.

i was really worried when i saw the replay; terrible stick control from the penguin player.

more than any win, i am pleased that he is going to be okay.

It looked pretty brutal, glad to hear he will be OK.

Was the Flames fan in the Kipper jersey who was right in front of it a CPer btw?

The slash then double high stick to the face, Naks leaves the game, only 4 mins..It may not have been intent to injure, but I feel where a player makes 3 harmful attempts to get the puck from a player and the final one leading to the player having to leave the game, should be a game misconduct on the offending player. Just a completely irresponsible play.

Recieved a message from the future that the injury wasn't serious, so I wasn't worried. After signing a two year deal and the trading of wideman at the draft, our permanent second pairing defenceman is doing just fine and looking forward to the playoffs.

How did you ride an Alpaca all the way to 88mph?

AHL site has Wotherspoon back with the Flames. Guess that means Nak is out tonight at least.

I think this was worth a couple games suspension at least. It wasn't even "careless use" IMO. He did't mean to poke him in the eye, but his repeated lifting of the stick and raking on Nakladal was deliberate.

Great to hear he's ok. Just a little maintenance to get the blood out.

Eye injuries are so scary. Glad to hear he's going to be okay.

Picture of his red eye if you're interested. NSFW if you're squeamish (and large size).

NSFW!

He sat at our table today at the Sportsnet luncheon (and Wideman too). Super nice guy, and he's very appreciative to be here in Calgary.

The eye looked a little rough but he said it's not bad, he should be good to go next game hopefully. He also said that the worst part of it was the fear that it would be really bad when it first happened, but once the doctor took a look at it he felt much better.

All in all, looks much worse than it actually is, thankfully!
Very nice and friendly guy.

As for Wideman, always nice and gracious, super friendly and very chatty once he realized we weren't crazy people LOL. I won't repeat what was said re: suspension but it was good to hear his side of it. He also had some interesting thoughts on the new building...
