Icon32 Ryan Suter unhappy with his defense partner

Rare to see a player come out and publicly say this:

http://www.si.com/nhl/2015/11/30/rya...tner-complaint

Quote:
Ryan Suter got a new defense partner on Monday morning. And the Minnesota Wild star is not happy about the change.

“I don’t know what they’re thinking,” Suter said after learning that he’d be reunited with Jonas Brodin, his partner for much of the past two seasons. “I need to play with a right handed defenseman.”

Although it may come off that way, it's not necessarily a shot at Brodin, who has struggled mightily this season since being taken from Suter's side. But it’s clearly a shot at somebody. And that’s a poor decision on his part.

It’s one thing for Suter to voice his displeasure in private. After all, most defensemen are more comfortable playing with a partner who shoots the opposite way, so it’s no surprise that he’d prefer to play with someone like the right-handed Jared Spurgeon as he has for much of this season.

But opening up in front of the team’s beat writers seems like a calculated strategy to embarrass either head coach Mike Yeo for making the change ... or perhaps to light a fire under Wild GM Chuck Fletcher to bring in another rightie like, say, Travis Hamonic of the Islanders.

He clearly needs a change of scenery.
Ryan Suter to the flames for backlund, wideman and Bolig. Or maybe gio for suter, but the wild might have to add

Don't some teams lack right D rather significantly? I think Detroit were all left shots until they got Mike Green.

Seems like an odd thing to die on the sword by given the sheer number of quality lefties out there

Probably not this deal, but Wideman to Minnesota actually makes quite a bit of sense.

" You see Ryan, nowhere on this $98 million dollar contract that you signed does it say that you are entitled to play with a Right-Handed d-partner. Now suck it up and go make your $9 million dollars this year." - GM Cliff Fletcher

This looks bad on Suter IMO.

Have always hated him. Mostly because I hated Gary Suter once he cross checked Paul Kariya in the head before the '98 Olympics and that really pissed off 10 year old me, so the hate was passed on through the Suter family.

Detroit regularly has played with 16 or 17 left handed skaters.

Not a fan of the comments but IMO the players on that team are ready to move from Mike Yeo and that's more what the comment was regarding. If the plan is to actually improve and one day maybe even challenge for a cup they should probably look at making a coaching change.

Cry me a river Suter! I'm sure some d men in the AHL would be quite happy to have your spot with the Wild.

I heard most of his comments on XM radio. Comments were clearly directed at the coach, Yeo. Talked about needing leadership from coaching staff.
