Lauren Bacall, Film Legend, dies at age 89
This may not resonate with many people, but an amazing actress with an amazing career. I was introduced to her because my grandfathers favorite actor was Humphery Bogart, and she managed to hold the screen across from some of the biggest actors of her time, as well as work consistently, through to a film she was in the process of shooting now.

With the current thread of top 5 movies that we've been throwing films out on, my top Bacall movies :
1) To Have or Have Not
2) The Big Sleep
3) Key Largo
4) How to Marry a Millionaire
5) Murder on the Orient Express
True, I've seen mostly only her big films, but she shone as few actress or actors are capable. Everyone has been struck by the tragedy of Robin Williams passing, but I'd hate for Bacall to become a footnote. Perhaps this is an opportunity to celebrate the work of these actors and not the nature of their death.

I read up on her today. She had quite the long life and it's something to celebrate.

She was one of the more elegant, classy leading ladies, during a very glamourous era. She was a very talented woman. Her and Bogart together were great. She was also quite fantastic opposite Jimmy Stewart.

One last thing, I think what I really liked about her was that she was elegant and classy, but she was strong. She wasn't dainty and demure as most other actresses of the time. She had strength and smarts, and was still womanly and sexy and fantastic. Another huge loss for the entertainment business.

I hate to say this but....I'll probably most remember her getting punched in the face by Christopher on the Sopranos. One of the all-time WTF moments, though it's awesome such a film legend agreed to do a cameo like that.

I'll always remember that she had great eyes, she had a sideways look that would heat up milk.
We often throw around the term legend like its a gift certificate to Swiss Chalet, but in this case Legend seems to fit.
RIP

Apart from physical similarities, Bacall and Jovovich are both actresses with tremendous presence. Elegance, delivery, and that thought in the back of your mind that she could probably take you out if she needed to. They are examples of a very rare set of combined traits.
And now that you've said that, it has me wondering back to my assertion that Milla would be the quintessential choice for Black Widow. If I had a time machine and Bacall trained for roles as current actors do, I'd have to think that a 30 year old Bacall would trump Milla as my choice. That really says a lot. I take my imaginary recastings very seriously.

The same for me with the grandparents, that's why I've seen a good chunk of her movies from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. You should post this thread in the main off topic forum.
She was a terrific actress, gorgeous, and had "the look." http://www.biography.com/#!/people/lauren-bacall-9194111
Here are some more excellent photos of her (imdb.com) and she is dynamite.
This one has her with US President Truman.
