It's pretty telling that I'm not really upset by this at all. I think it's time.

1-1 deal? For picks or for a roster player? Part of a package deal? I wonder what teams are interested...

Good. I was always a Backlund fan, but the lustre has worn off for me now. Package Backlund with Cammy and let's see what nice pieces/picks the Flames can get back.

If it's the right deal, go for it. Not surprised teams see the upside in him. He'll flourish if he ends up in Detroit. No, not talking offense but as an all round player.

Always had high hopes for the guy but this is hardly surprising. More picks please.

Comparable and upside of him was always Patrick Berglund but it looks like it won't happen on this team under this regime.
Don't really like moving Backlund at this point as you likely won't get much for him but he'll likely have even less value as a pending UFA next year so let's see what Burke can do.

Weird - he's available, and 4-5 teams have asked about him.
Were none of those "questions" (offers) enough to move an "available" player? Or are teams kickng the tires?
Hate inexact wording for this stuff. Speculation runs rampant enough without casting doubt on whether a player is being asked about, or is being shopped around. Or both.

Difficult player to get a solid read on his value. Any ideas? A 2nd rounder?

I still see Backlund as a player with a lot of potential, and it's probably in his best interest to go to another team at this point. I just have a feeling that we will end up losing this trade as his value right now is not what it could be for him. Hopefully some team see's the potential in him still and pays accordingly, but I think lots of teams would be hoping to get a project player for cheap.

Will be great when Babcock requests Holland get him and he's embarrassing us for years to come.

Not surprised. Will also not be surprised if he is traded for one of MDZ or Gardiner over the weekend.
Backlund really needed to show he was an everyday 2nd line center to stay on the flames and i don't think he has done it to date or might be able to do it for that matter.

I don't get people are upset. Every player should be avaialable for the right price. Just because he's available doesn't mean he's going to be traded. If a team is willing to pay what Feaster and Burke feel is worth it, then he'll be traded. If there is a deal to make the Flames better long term, then we should take it and be happy about it.

Makes sense - I can see Backlund being traded to a team that needs cap relief in exchange for an (expensive) top-6 forward. For example, if St Louis wants to make space to go after Miller, Backlund for one of their "expensive" forwards would make sense (with prospects or picks added as needed)

Then play him on the second line. Don't demand more offense and then bury him with Jackman and McGrattan.
