Shogun
I think this show deserves it's own thread, probably the best thing on TV right now. I wasn't too sure of the actor playing Blackthorne at the start, but damn he's won me over in the last few episodes. Milk dribbling #### smear is my new favorite insult, right up with the best of Veep

I felt it had high cheese potential when I heard about it, but thankfully it never materialized. It's been a pleasant surprise. Costume and set design Emmys are a wrap for certain.

It feels like Black Sails with a big budget and competent writing.
I think I'm getting to the age where historical set pieces tickle the senses.

Played Ghost of Tsushima years ago on the PS4, but after watching Shogun I've got an itch for more samurai stuff so I just bought the directors cut for the PS5. And wow is the upgrade worth it, an already beautiful game is absolutely stunning on the better hardware

So, did anyone else finish this off? What a great series. I’m not a film critic by any stretch of the imagination, but some of the cinematography was so beautiful, and of course it’s a fantastic storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope it’s available for a while because I’d love to rewatch it sometime.

The beauty of it is helped by the fact that it was all shot in B.C.

Some of these filming spots are getting a little over used. It's hard to suspend belief and think you are really seeing the Japans, when you watched Percy Jackson and his friends at camp in the same bay a month ago!

That's why more productions need to come to Alberta (obviously Shogun wouldn't have worked here), I have heard that this is a bit of thing where audiences are getting pulled out of shows seeing the same scenery/skyline from Vancouver and area all the time.
Edit: I still need to watch the final episode, need to give myself that clear hour of time to really focus on it. It does demand that level of attention to really enjoy.

While the landscapes are beautiful, I was also referring to some of the shots they used overall. I wouldn't want to post any spoilers here, but there were a couple that caught my eye in the last episode or two that were just so well done.

I tapped out about six episodes in. Thought it was cool at first, but then it just got so boring.
White dude shocked at how the Japanese do things differently than in England?!
Rinse and repeat.
Plus, I can only read a TV show for so long. I prefer to double task. Like, what if Wormius says something mind blowing that must be addressed right away and there I am with my nose buried in a TV show instead of monitoring CP?

A shame. The ninth episode was one of my favorite episodes of any show, ever. Anna Sawai was an absolute force that episode. I actually shouted 'f##k yeah' out loud at one point.

Yeah, but I have a feeling that Sliver would be so disappointed. I thought that the ending was magnificent, but I know that not everyone shared that view.

It wasn't.
Finale was fine. Unremarkable. Not particularly interesting.
Overall series was alright. Shogun was about the 3rd best series I've watched in the last month, so there's that.
