Canadian and Albertan government will support Calgary in $30 mil 2026 Olympics bid
Donna Spencer @DLSpencer10
Canadian and Alberta governments say they'll support Calgary creating a bid corporation for 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. Calgary was looking for a three-way split on the approx. $30-million cost of a bid.
Lucas Meyer @meyer_lucas
IMPORTANT: Alberta Minister of Culture and Tourism says provincial funding is contingent on Calgary holding a plebiscite on a potential 2026 Olympics bid. #yyc #yyccc

You'd have to think a new arena would be in the plans. It'd be embaressing otherwise

The city’s plans for the Vic Park redevelopment have a new arena as a pretty key part of it. Regardless of what the IOC said about the ‘Dome being suitable a new arena would always have been a pet of the city’s plans going forward.
Let the feds and province pay for some really expensive #### and you might see the city being able to soften on some things regarding the arena.

Lol at posters that thought spending government money on a flames arena was a bad idea. There going to be spending a hell of a lot more money if they win this bid. And I'm pretty sure they will win the bid .
At least flames will get the new arena

Its shameful that Calgary has the worst football stadium and hockey arena in Canada. Hopefully all sides can come together and fix that and make Calgary have the best football stadium and hockey arena in Canada.
Dare to dream of bigger things.

So what's to upgrade? Athletes villages, ski jump, arena. bobsleigh track?
I'm sure whichever ski hill gets the games is gonna want some serious chunk of dough too. Doubt Nakiska gets it again. Unless they do...
Either way, pretty exciting as this is the way the Flames get into a shiny new rink.

The Flames are pretty god-damned fortunate, when you think about it. I imagine they could end up being the only professional sports team to twice gain a state-of-the-art playing and practice facility through an unrelated Olympic event.

Cities/countries have until Saturday to inform the IOC of their intentions to pursue a bid for 2026. This would appear to ensure that Calgary will inform them of our intent.
It looks like Italy is putting together a Milan-Turin bid. Switzerland and Austria are expected to put their names forward as well. Norway, Sweden, and even Turkey are also possibilities.

####ing NDP and the stupid plebiscite. Just do some polling.
The difference between the plebiscite voter and the average citizen is greater than the polling error of a well constructed sample.
A low turn out vote might be the least democratic way to decide this
