Default 13-bedroom Calgary house draws attention from city officials

Still better than Hong Kong I guess.

https://calgary.citynews.ca/2024/10/...home-for-sale/

The 1,100 square foot detached home in Whitehorn comes with 13 bedrooms and, according to the listing, has six on the main level with seven additional bedrooms in the basement.

Following up on a complaint Tuesday morning, safety code officers with the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) and city building department arrived for a fifth time to check on smoke detectors, window size, and make sure each bedroom has an egress window.

“The City of Calgary and the Calgary Fire Department are aware of this property and are reviewing it for land use bylaw compliance as well as fire and building code compliance,” reads a statement from the city following the Tuesday morning review of the home.

Is Justin Havre sleazy? I've never heard anything of him ither than seeing his ads where he looks fun and hilarious. An ad would never lie, would it?

I've heard some pretty greasy stories, he seems quite slimy

13 bedrooms and 1(one) bathroom and they have started locking the bathrooms at McDonald’s.

2 1/2

not saying that ratio is better but it is what the house has.

Oops, you’re right! I suppose one should count the kitchen sink also.

It's sustainable, don't know what you guys are on about.

And certainly not cookie cutter.

That floor plan production is absolutely horrible; doesn't even show the appliances in the kitchen or pieces of the bathroom.
I had to look a few times to realize it even had a kitchen.

I think we should have more properly designed housing like this. If you had proper group bathrooms with a urinal and a stall so you get get up to 5 toilets and 6 shower stalls and have an eating area with multiple fridges and two sets of laundry machines you’d have a pretty good system.

This size of room with shared facilities should be part of our solution to homelessness. Security would be a challange. But a bunkhouse isn’t inherantly bad.

you know if it were a block off UofC campus something like this would almost make sense, only 2 of those bedrooms are really too small. The washrooms is a bigger issue, my house barely survives at a 1:1 ratio, 4:1 could get pretty wild.

In university I lived a similarly sized house, similar layout with 6 beds / 2 bath.
These guys just appear to have turned the two living rooms into 2-3 bedrooms each.

There are some by market mall like this now, listed airbnbs that have 10+ rooms, that all have their own bathroom too. Had a friend visit and stayed in one, pretty convenient.

https://www.oururbanvillage.ca/tomo-house/

This place is close to me in Vancouver and is kind of gone that direction.
Each place has it's own small kitchen, then there's a large shared kitchen with more appliances and things anyone can use.
The idea is to share tools, and things like that too.

Uh, cats and dogs living together in peace and harmony? I don't think so. That cat looks hella nervous.

Found the listing: https://www.realtor.ca/real-estate/2...gary-whitehorn

No interior photos. And at only $500k, I don't think I need to see the photos to know it is not going to be good.

Nah. I've lived in some pretty cramped student housing, but this place is just an indoor slum. Even the dorms I stayed in all had common living rooms of some kind.
