Safeway stores all have them. If you are a TD customer, they have counters you can use for free.

The Safeway machines take a percentage of the total. I want to say 11% but I don't remember for sure.
Just googled - it's 11.9%.

If I was in Calgary, I'd say bring it to me and I'd roll it for you for the same gouge that those machines take. I think it's between 10 to 15% of your money they take!! So if you have $100 worth of change you are throwing away $15!!
Go to Walmart and buy a coin sorter and a bag of rolls.
But if you REALLY want to use the machine, you can throw your money away here:
Cash Your Coin Locations
Calgary Locations
Calgary SE - Inglewood - West Canadian Print Shop
Calgary NW - Canadian Tire Beacon Hill
Calgary NE - Sobeys Country Hills
Calgary SW - Canadian Tire Westhills

Some Canadian Tire stores also have them (Sarcee and Richmond is one), but the percentage is in the 12-14% range I believe. Personally, I can accept that as a convenience charge for the pennies, nickels, and dimes. I'll keep the quarters, loonies, and twonies for coffee money.

Just saw that non-TD customers pay 8% on their machines, FWIW.

I've heard that if you take the money in the form of a Safeway gift card, they won't take the commission at Safeway.
Can anyone confirm this is true?

This is what I've heard too, so it makes sense if you shop at Safeway anyways.

If you do the gift card there's no commission.
They got upset at me when I dumped $500.00 worth of coins from a water jug into the machine and then asked for cash.

I like rolling my change, it's like making your own money. I also like how fast the rolls of loonies and twonies add up. Maybe pick all of them out of your change before you dump it in the sorter at Safeway.

I use the self checkouts at Safeway. I just dump a couple hundred in change in there while buying my groceries and wait about 30 minutes for the counting to finish. (only half serious)

This is what I use. They limit you to $250 per trip if you are a non customer. But the machine shows you a running total so there is no guess work involved. over $250 they charge about 4-5%. There are other machines throughout the city at BMO's as well. You can search for branches with the change sorter through the find a branch feature on their website.

Bump on this - anyone have recent experience with locations and fees? I am thinking I have over $1,000 in change and the bucket ready to redeem.
I am assuming one would be wise to pluck as many loonies and toonies from their change bucket as possible before using one of these machines.

As a far as a year ago bmo still had free sorting for non customers up to 250. And low fees for above that amount.

I tend to buy my groceries in transactions ranging from $10-35. I got through most of my change at Safeway doing this. It took an extra minute or two per transaction, but I was okay with that.
