It just doesn't feel like a World Championship without any Oilers participating.
Also I believe this is the first time France and Germany have ever co-hosted something. Interesting it is happening during the 100th anniversary of WWI.

And they lost to South Korea. Although it looks like Korea has some mercenary players too.

I met his father, not knowing who he was, and scorned him for wearing a Tampa Bay Lightning hat. He then said: "yes, Yes, the goal was in in 2004.. but my son plays for the Lightning"
At this point all I could do was say " congratulations."

Kristen Odland said he wasn't asked, but he had that skate cut so maybe it was obvious he wouldn't go.

Neither Kazkhstan nor South Korea have any mercenaries. All of their national team foreign players are naturalized citizens that have lived and played in the country for five or more years.

Dawes and Boyd both played for Canada in the World Juniors... I guess IIHF doesn't have any rules around switching national teams?

Well that's just not true. The starting goalie for S. Korea has only been there three seasons and played in the KHL in 13/14.

I was using 'mercenaries' in the military sense, like the Hessians. Wasn't suggesting they were only motivated by money.

Looks like it's four seasons to switch. Only 16 months if you haven't previously played an international tournament.

The season just ended and they played 82 games plus 4 playoff games and 4-6 preseason games.
This tournament is not a go over and play for a week. They go to France and play exhibition games and then the tournament. This ends up being close to 5 weeks more of hockey to play in a crappy tournament.
