I played the original Test Drive and Need For Speed on PC, but the one game I remember blowing my mind the most was Midtown Madness. No set track, racing on city streets with traffic and pedestrians, and the graphics/sound for the time were unrivaled

I just got around to watching the PlayStation State of Play from May.....what a discouraging showcase of upcoming games.
Astro Bot should be fun and it's nice to see that PoE 2 will be making it's way to both next gen consoles by the end of 2024.
But the rest....blaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. PS5 will forever be known as the remake generation console.
And what's most odd? PS5 has already made Sony more money than PS4 in a fraction of the time. I'm a massive Playstation fan, but I can't think of a Sony console that has fewer "must play" games than this one.
In the first 4 years:
PS3
COD 4
Assassin's Creed
GTA 4
Metal Gear Solid 4
Uncharted 2
LittleBigPlanet
Arkham Asylum
Red Dead Redemption
God of War 3
PS4 GTA5
Journey
Metal Gear Solid 5
Bloodborne
Uncharted 4
PS5 God of War Ragnorok
Spider man 2
Ratchet and Clank?
Obviously mileage varies and perhaps I'm just getting old and busy... but those "you need this system to play this" games? They're almost all on the previous systems.

Ragnarok is a PS4 game as well, so really it's just Spider-Man 2 and R&C

I think Final Fantasy XVI should be on that list as well.
Everything else was released on other consoles, older consoles, or wasn't a system seller. I'd argue FFVII Rebirth and Returnal could be on the list, but that's not going to be a universal opinion. Rebirth isn't going to draw in many new players unless they play Remake, and Returnal might not be "AAA" enough to sell systems like the others.

I did figure Final Fantasy would make the list for a lot of people, it's just not my thing. I think Returnal is cool, but not quite on the level with the other stuff imo.
Thanks to Russic's post, I went through system exclusive games for PS3-PS5 and Xbox 360-One (all Series games are also on PC) to see what system sellers weren't multi-platform. There were definitely system sellers that were multi-platform, but I thought it was interesting to see what games were solely available in one place.
I used 2 million sales as a minimum number to be included.
PS3
Gran Turismo 5
Gran Turismo 6
Infamous
Killzone 2
LittleBigPlanet
Metal Gear Solid 4
MotorStorm

Forza Motorsport 2
Forza Motorsport 3
Gears of War 2
Gears of War 3
Kinect Adventures (bundled with the Kinect)
Kinect Sports
Saints Row
PS4
Bloodborne
Driveclub
Gran Turismo Sport
Infamous Second Son
Killzone: Shadow Fall
Knack
Xbox One
Forza Motorsport 5

GTA5 - released on PS3 first in 2013
Journey - released on PS3 in 2012
Metal Gear Solid 5 - also released on PS3 day one
Bloodborne and Uncharted 4 for sure though. The Witcher 3 was a current-gen exclusive in 2015 that was a must-play.
Hey you're right... adjusted.
I know the PS4 and PS5 are good machines, and the PS3 is widely regarded as something of a misstep... but GDamn those games. Maybe it's just my age, but those games were the best.

If you add Nintendo in to this list it gets funny.
Xbox 360 nostalgia kicking in! I did more gaming on that thing than any other system except maybe the SNES. I think Uncharted 1-3 were the only PS3 exclusives I played at the time.

I think it's less age and more that the options today are virtually limitless. When I was 12 and lived in the country, we only had CBC and CTV. I could watch a fishing show and enjoy it. Fast forward 8 years and I was living in town with cable and nothing was ever on.
When the PS3 was THE thing, there were just limited options and the anticipation of the good games was so high
