I've said it before and I'll say it again - if Greg Clark's Alberta Party was still around today, I'd be voting for them. He would have been an AWESOME premier.

Yeah. I think the NDP name alone is an issue for a lot of people, and their historic far left positioning isn't a platform that is likely to resonate with enough Albertans to form government regularly.

If they stay in the centre and have someone charismatic like Nenshi they have a chance - but it'd be a bigger chance if they changed their colours to purple and called themselves the One Alberta party or something like that. If they elect a true-believer NDP type that's their choice, but it also means they're choosing not to be relevant to the majority of Albertans.

In that case we really would need a new centrist party - because we can't be stuck with the UCP forever - it's just getting worse and worse.

(4) If the Legislature is dissolved after the issue of the writ referred to in subsection (2) and before an election is held under the writ, the writ is revoked on the dissolution of the Legislature.

(5) A vacancy in the membership of the Assembly does not invalidate any proceedings of the Assembly.

So the earliest would likely be early next year as they would push it to the last available day once a seat is vacated

Our problem is, has been and will remain until we acknowledge them.

- Rural ridings have too much electoral power
- Alberta has a very young population
- Calgary has too many old people in it coming from lucky Oil booms and Generational wealth.

Its really easy to not GAF about Health Care and Education when you can afford to get it from wherever you want.

Smith's Libertarianism nonsense sounds great to people at the tail-end of their lives with enough wealth that it doesnt matter.

But thats not everyone.

I don’t think rural ridings have too much electoral power or at least not an unfair amount, rather it’s the small to mid size cities that should align closer to Edmonton and Calgary who are still falling for Lucy holding the football.

The rural ridings aren’t going to move to more moderate views until they’re forced to.

It's sad that many people can't see past partisan colors or do research on party policy. Even if Greg Clark's Alberta Party isn't an option anymore, the ANDP is the clear go-to choice in their place as the credible centrist option. Of course, to many people they will always be socialist (or communist to the real nutters), despite that being blatantly inaccurate in 2024, and no matter what they the party does - even if they imploded and went extreme right-wing - they will still be.... orange and NDP; therefore bad.

I think it’s becoming less of and issue since most indications are that the number of people who refuse to vote for the NDP a decreasing and the number of people who refuse to vote for the UCP are increasing. Progress takes time unfortunately and I’m not convinced for a minute that they would have won the last election had they simply changed the name.
