I'm denying the popularity of books written BY murderers detailing their thought process and murders. I cant imagine who that would appeal to.
The Gates of Janus by Ian Brady (Moors Murderers) is a highly acclaimed book, not only does he explain him and his girlfriends murders of kids he try's to explain the sick minds of other famous serial killers like Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy.

The Making Of A Serial Killer by Danny Rolling, He was executed and I believe his estate was sued for the profits of the book.

Final Truth: The Autobiography of a Serial Killer by Donald Gaskins. I believe this was a popular book.

Killer! A journey of murder written from the manuscripts of the very sick, violent but smart Carl Panzram, probably the most famous serial killer book ever. I think a movie or doc was made from this book.

Probably more but written under pen names with help because of legal issues.
