I'm 2 episodes into season 5. I can't really put my finger on it, but something seems off with the show. All the manipulation and obfuscation that made this series shine is still there, but it all seems much more....obvious. Frank and Claire are less nuanced than they were previously and just play like straight up evil villains now. It's still good, just not as good. Maybe my expectations have shifted because there have been so many good series since I last watched this, but House of Cards was previously the standard bearer for good tv (for me anyway) and this new season just feels kind of watered down. Maybe it will pick up after a few more episodes.
