the biggest change to me in the last few years is the fact that so many draft picks in each of the last 5 years are still a discussion. Often you pick 7 guys, never get to know 4 of them, and cut many loose. Two years later you look at the names and they never amounted to anything.

Tod Button seems to be on a roll in finding "interesting" players deep into the draft.

2011 - all 5 guys have played
2012 - Culkin, Kulak, Gillies and Sieloff still in the discussion
2013 - Kanzig and Rafikov still in play
2014 - all 6 players on their way, two with WJC chances

Really adds some girth to the prospect list. Don't see a lot of Trubachevs and Shastins
Last year I thought to myself if 10 of these guys make it to the NHL then the Flames would be in good shape. I think from the list of players last year, 10 players isn't going to be hard to acheive. On top of that we are starting to see players traded for assets in the future (Reinhart/Sven) instead of a player just not panning out. Kind of the gift that keep giving.
