No idea about Calgary but just my thoughts on Canskate.
I've got 2 boys in the Canskate program in Ottawa for a year now a nearly 4 and a 5.5 year old.
No complaints at all. Both love it.
Works with about 5 groups of about 6-8/group dependent on ability to skate and they seem to be quite good at recognising ability and moving the kids up if they're developing. Usually a teacher and teenager per group.
Just my observations but the girls seem to catch on quicker.
