Seems odd they would make that switch now. It would seem the playoffs would be the thing that gets everyone excited and would make people renew that are sitting on the fence (which I'm assuming there is a quite a few given the economy). Giving people and option to go to playoffs and than decide later to renew or not seems like a bad business move. People can be less impulsive.
