I would think that would only work if there is corroborating evidence he was putting your life at risk at the moment you shot him.
I agree its a very poorly worded law and the potential for abuse is prevalent, but there still has to be evidence of sorts to convict.
I think that's what so many are mis-understanding about this case...the evidence was pretty much overwhelming that the defense (and the prosecution for that matter) presented in favor of the SYG scenario.
It may very well be one of the most bungled prosecutions ever seen. The way they went about this case, there truly was no other outcome.
