Disneyland/California Adventure are both wonderful. Your family will have a great time! I will echo other posters- Soarin' Over California is great in particular.
If you are able to, I really enjoyed checking out Huntington Beach (the surfing capital of the US, with a big pier you can walk out on) and Laguna Beach, which was rather pretty.
