There really isn't any such thing as a loser point. Those always existed as ties. Rather they added a gimmick point for the team that wins the S/O or 3on3.

Under old school standings Edmonton would have finished:
37-26-19

and Calgary:
32-33-17

That's a bigger difference (12 points) when you remove the parts of the game that aren't really hockey.
I agree with this guy (gross).

During a regular season, it should always be win loss tie, no overtime.
