If I was Treliving, I would sign Backlund to an extension as soon as possible.

Backs has another year like this past season and he is going to be a Selke nominee, which will bring another level of salary. Backlund also deserves full commitment from the Flames to pay back the loyalty and home town sweet heart deals that he has taken every year his contract gets renewed.

IMO it is a complete shame that a guy like Troy Brouwer has an A on his jersey over Backlund. Even more of a slap in the face is the fact he was handed that A before he had even played a single game for the Flames over a guy who has played his entire career for Calgary.
