It is easy to minimize this but alcohol use is a huge issue in Canada and costs the health care system an incredible amount of money. The number of people admitted to the hospital with liver failure, hepatic encephalopathy, alcohol withdrawals, cancers, traumatic injuries, pancreatitis, and mental health issues related to alcohol abuse is overwhelming. Going through a patient's chart the most common history is that of alcohol abuse. As a society we collectively drink an absolutely absurd amount of alcohol.
