Things got awful dark in an awful hurry when he (and Walt) made that call to disappear. Saul almost seemed like a different person in that last scene we see him in. For the first time he isn't trying to spin anything, and he's as absolutely defeated by it all as he could possibly be.
I'm really interested to see how he seemingly goes from a clean cut James McGill to slimy Saul Goodman. I bet the whole development of this character is going to be damn entertaining.
