Default Home Renovation Query

Bear in mind I am not exactly a handyman...

Had the bathroom finished in our basement, and have belatedly realized we may have a problem. Aside from one of the the under sink cupboard doors not opening due to...oh nevermind that one, oops.

Anyway, the exhaust fan is piped into the furnace room.

We are told it should go outside.

Is there something, ie a charcoal filter, that could go on the end of the pipe or do we have to drill through the foundation to vent?

How important is the fan?

Thanks in advance.
